The morning sun cast a soft glow over the campus as Heeseung and Sunghoon strolled side by side, their hands brushing occasionally as they walked.
Their easy, comfortable silence was a refreshing start to the day, neither needing words to enjoy each other's presence.
But as they reached the intersection leading to their separate classes, Sunghoon stopped, giving Heeseung a quick, lopsided smile.
"Math for you, Biology for me." Sunghoon murmured as he released Heeseung’s hand.
"Try not to miss me too much."Heeseung chuckled, giving Sunghoon a gentle nudge.
"Please, focus on your class. I’ll be fine."
He teased, but the small grin he gave away hinted he might miss Sunghoon just as much. With one last smile, they headed in opposite directions.
Heeseung made his way to his math class, settling into his usual seat just as the bell echoed down the hallway.
He barely had a moment to get comfortable when a familiar figure darted over and slid into the seat beside him with a burst of energy.
It was Jake, and his face was practically glowing with excitement.
“Heeseung!”
Jake whispered, trying to keep his voice down but failing miserably, the joy evident in his expression. “Thank you, seriously. I don’t know how else to say it..thank you for breaking things off with Jay. He- he finally opened up to me.”Heeseung raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sudden outpouring.
“Wait, what? Jay actually..?”Jake nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah! Last night. We ended up talking for hours, and he was honest about how he felt.”
Jake’s eyes sparkled, his voice dropping a little.
“I never thought he’d let me in like that.”Heeseung’s face softened as he watched Jake’s happiness, realizing how much this meant to him.
“I’m glad, Jake. Really. You deserve it.”Jake beamed, grabbing Heeseung's shoulder for a quick, grateful squeeze.
"I just..I have you to thank for it. I know it couldn’t have been easy.”Heeseung gave a small nod, managing a smile.
"Sometimes, things work out the way they’re supposed to.”Jake's smile widened, and without hesitation, he pulled Heeseung into a tight hug, his arms wrapping around him in an enthusiastic, grateful squeeze.
“Seriously.”
Jake murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
“You have no idea how much this means to me.”Heeseung chuckled, giving Jake a reassuring pat on the back before Jake finally released him and settled back into his own seat.
As Jake sat down, his joy still radiating, Heeseung couldn’t help but feel a small pang of warmth seeing him this happy.
With a soft smile lingering on his lips, Heeseung turned to his notebook, flipping it open as he tried to focus on the upcoming lesson.
But his thoughts drifted.
He knew he needed to talk to Jay.
Needed to sort out whatever misunderstandings and hurt might still linger between them.
Heeseung took a steadying breath, thinking that he’d find the right moment soon.Heeseung tapped his pen absently against his notebook, his mind straying to Jay and the conversation he knew they’d need to have.
The memory of Jay’s voice, sharp with frustration on the phone yesterday, lingered in his mind.
