Maddie Interrupted (abandoned in NYC book 2)

missing the signs

Over the next week things seemed normal enough except for maddies nightmares coming more often. Olivia was console her but once Olivia left the room maddie would down a couple pills to help her sleep. Maddie refused medication by her therapist cause she didn't want to seem crazy to everyone and she figured self medication was doing the trick anyway.

That morning she woke early and made some tea then seen olivia emerge from her room.

Olivia looked at her "your up early my love. Everything ok?" She asked.

"Um...yeah just wanted to get to school early and work on my Anne frank book report." Maddie said grabbing her coat.

"Ok well give me a minute to dress and I can take you." Olivia continued and went to walk back in her room.

"No mom...it's ok you deserve some down time and schools only a few blocks I'll be fine." She smiled really just needing to make a detour to Brooklyn before school.

Olivia glanced at her "ok...if your sure."

Maddie nodded and kissed her cheek "see you after school mom." She said and grabbed her bag and rushed out the door.

When Maddie arrived she didn't have any money so she made her normal arrangement with kyler and gave him a strip tease and a lap dance before grabbing the drugs and heading to school.

She hated herself even more sometimes when she had to do that but her and kyler had dated before so she didn't think it was as big a deal.

Once at school she ran in to noah "hey sis." Noah started.

"Hey. Sorry I left early this morning" Maddie replied as she switched out her books.

"Yeah mom said you came to do a book report but you weren't at the library?" He said curiously.

"Yeah I went and wrote it by the bleachers." She lied.

"No you didn't cause me and Jessie were there this morning...what were you really up to?" He asked.

"Just don't worry about it ok noah and don't be telling mom and getting her all spazzed out over nothing." She continued and slammed her locker and walked away.

Noah was worried about his sister but let it go for now figuring she was smart enough not to do stupid shit.

Later that day Maddie and noah showed up at the precinct.

Maddie was sitting at a table in the break room tapping her fingers as she read a book but wasn't really paying attention to it.

Amanda walked in and seen her smiling "hey kiddo."

"Hey aunt manda." Maddie smiled slightly.

"You doing ok? You look a bit...on edge" Amanda replied.

"I'm good...just tired." She said keeping her eyes on her book now.

Amanda's sister was an addict and amanda was beginning to see similar signs with maddie but hadn't said anything to olivia yet not wanting to start something if she was wrong.

She sat in front of Maddie "Maddie you know you can talk to me about anything...if anything is bothering you." She said concerned.

Madelyn looked in to Amanda's eyes and was going to say something but stopped herself and then said "really I'm fine." She said and went back to her book.

Amanda silently sighed but just nodded and kissed her goddaughters head and walked away.
