Maddie Interrupted (abandoned in NYC book 2)

a close call

Olivia and amanda were scared to move her and possibly hurt her so they waited agonizingly as the ambulance and paramedics finally arrived. They tried one more dose of narcan but when she didn't wake they got her on the gurney and rushed her out.

Olivia got in the ambulance with her daughter after hollering to amanda to please pick noah up from his friends house. Fin got in his car and followed the ambulance away.

As the paramedics were working she flat lined and one paramedic yelled "she's codeing!" The two paramedics began jolting her heart with the defibrillator as olivia sat back out of thier way in tears praying this was not when she was going to lose maddie.

As the paramedics were working on her and moving her around slightly she noticed maddies phone on the floor and picked it up but didn't have time to look at it yet as they got her out of the ambulance and rushed her in to the ER.

Olivia tried to follow but a nurse stopped her and told her she'd have to wait in the waiting room for the doctor to give her news. Olivia hesitantly listened and sat still holding maddies phone. She got curiouser while she was also nervous and she began reading through texts. There were several from Kurt which made her anger bubble up to the surface. There were also messages from a few different students making fun if her and calling her awful things like slut and whore. One in particular caught er her eye from an unknown number that read:

Trying to sleep your way through the school? Quit being such a skank and just realize the world would be a hell of a better place without you. Not even your mother wanted you that should tell you something.

Olivia read this and now wondered if this was an accident or if her daughter really was trying to commit suicide. Olivia cried now wondering how she had missed so many signs when this was part of what she did at work everyday.

It was a couple hours before a doctor finally emerged and said "family of maddie benson?"

Olivia stood alone cause she had sent fin back to work to cover for her. "I'm maddies mother." She said.

"Ms. Benson your daughter had a large amount of Xanax and fentanyl in her system. We have stabilized her and pumped her stomach but she will be out for a little while. We also do want to keep her on a 24 hour hold to monitor her recovery." He said.

"Shit. Ok. But she's gonna be ok right?" Olivia asked.

"For now yes but Ms. Benson does your daughter have a drug addiction problem?" The doctor asked.

Hesitating slightly olivia nodded "I think so. I've been trying to handle it by keeping a closer eye on her but I'm obviously failing." She said.

"It may be more effective if you got her in to an in patient treatment center." He continued.

Olivia didn't want maddie away from her but she also didn't want this to happen again. "I'm getting her back in to her therapist and then I will take steps needed after that." She replied and the doctor nodded and handed her a list.

"This is a list of recommended treatment centers if you change your mind." He said.

"Um...thank you. May I see her?" Olivia asked.

The doctor nodded and ead her to maddies room.

Olivia rushed to her daughters side and held her hand gently wiping away her own tears with her free hand. She couldn't help but think about the one text she read and she whispered "please tell me you didn't do this on purpose."
