Chapter four

Dylan comes closer to me but I move back a little further. I don't know why I'm doing this but it doesn't feel right standing here next to him right now. I love him with all my heart but for a few weeks I've noticed that he's no longer interested in me but only in the wedding. "What am I looking for here babe? I want to see you, I've been trying miserably for weeks to just see you for a second and this morning you pushed me away. I wanted to make sure you were okay."

I just laughed lightly and tried to be strong and not tell him that I had just received the worst news of my life and on the anniversary of my sister's death. "Do you have any idea what day it is? Do you notice what date it is?" He just looks at me confusingly and shrugs his shoulders. "Today is September 10th, 2024? So it's a normal day like any other, so what's so special about it today?"

I always knew that he could be a little asshole but today he shows me again and again that I can only confirm it. "Okay wow, I think this is the newest and lowest point you've ever reached. If you didn't just live in your bubble, you would know that my sister died exactly 5 years ago, but you obviously don't care, you're just thinking about your needs anyway." I say as I try to walk past him but he has other plans.

"Babe, that's why you're upset now? I'm sorry that your sister died but you have to keep living and at the moment we're doing exactly the opposite of living on, you're just here with your parents instead of in OUR apartment that we both bought a few months ago!" Me I honestly can't believe how one can have so little empathy. I keep running until he grabs my wrist and pulls me back towards him.

"Dylan, what's this? You just have to accept my needs and those are mine right now okay? I don't want to be near you right now!" He pushes me slightly against the wall and starts kissing my neck, but I immediately defend myself from him and keep some distance from him by placing my hand on his chest.

"I think it's better if you leave now and maybe think about what you just did here. My dad will be back soon and he won't be happy when he hears that you don't accept my opinion, okay." Dylan bites his teeth hard, I can tell by how tense his jaw is right now. Dylan is actually a really great friend, but every now and then he crosses a line that is too much for me.

"As you say, I'll give you as much time as you need, but I just thought we could do something." I just laugh slightly and cross my arms. "We're welcome to do something, but your company just wasn't what I wanted, okay?" Dylan just gives me a little kiss on the cheek and in that moment my dad comes home, looking surprised that Dylan is here.

"Dylan you here? I haven't seen you in a while? Are you staying for dinner?" Dylan just walks past John and shakes his head. "No, everything was fine, Grace just brought a few little things from home. I have to go back now, I still have a few things to do at work." I'm honestly happy when Dylan finally left the house because I was really tense being around him because I wanted to start crying and into his Arms to fall but I want to stay strong, I want to keep all this to myself for as long as I can, I don't want to be a burden to anyone and I don't want everyone here to worry about me.

Dad turns to me and immediately smiles when he sees me and asks if I'm okay. I hope I can keep my cover up but it's difficult with him. He's also a lawyer just like me and he notices when someone is lying and just pretends it's the real him. This ability of his is sometimes really tiring.

"Yes, everything's okay with me, I just have a few cases that I'm racking my brain about a little, but it'll be okay." He looks at me with this scrutinizing look and just nods slightly. "Okay, if anything gets too much for you, please just let me know. Besides, you were actually in the office today, I didn't see you at all and neither did anyone else?"

I swallowed slightly and tried to think of a plausible explanation. "I was at an appointment, my best friend is getting married soon and she was choosing her wedding dress today and she really wanted me to be there. "I'm sorry I didn't let you know, I seem to have forgotten to do so."

"No, you don't have to be sorry, everything's fine, I just missed you there. Also, have you heard anything from your mother? I've been trying to call her for a few hours but she's not answering?" Just as I was about to answer my dad, the doorbell rings.
