If someone had told me a few years ago that this is what my life would be like, I would have just laughed at them. My life has always been beautiful. I had good grades, I had my friends, my siblings and my parents. I started studying law to become a lawyer like my parents. Everything was going great until that one day. This date will haunt me until the end of my life. September 10, 2019. That day my life collapsed. The day couldn't have started any better, it was my little sister Macy's birthday. Her 10th birthday, she was looking forward to this day so much, in the morning we all went to the sea together because Macy loved the sea, she loved just standing there for hours and looking at the waves.

She always became very calm and enjoyed every single second. If I had known what would happen later, I would have left her there until she finally wanted to go home. But I still had to plan a surprise party with all her friends who she hasn't seen in months since we moved. We were then on our way home, I wanted to get there as quickly as possible because I really wanted to see how happy Macy was. During the drive, their favorite songs played, which we of course sang along loudly. I kept looking over at her because I loved seeing her smile. She looked so relaxed, she was just grateful to be able to spend a whole day with her sister.

Unfortunately, since studying law, I haven't been home much; I've always commuted from San Francisco back to Los Angeles. Looking into those sad eyes every time I left just hurt so incredibly much, which is why I looked for a job that was in LA, I wanted to announce it to everyone later at the party but that never happened . Just as I was about to take the exit, I noticed someone was in my lane, but I couldn't avoid it anymore because the light from the headlights blinded me and at the same moment we were thrown into the air. I just felt the car turning several times and eventually we reached the ground again.

I can't remember anything else because I was immediately unconscious. The next memory I have is hearing muffled screams, sirens from different cars and seeing two people running towards me. My dad and my big brother Tyler. I noticed how they both knelt in front of me and looked at me very closely, especially Tyler, who had just finished his medical studies. But at that moment I just didn't care about any of that, I didn't care how I was feeling, it was just important to me to know whether my little sister was alive. I looked at my dad who just looked at me with tears in his eyes, I knew immediately what those eyes meant, he only has those eyes when something bad happened. Immediately I realized Macy didn't survive the accident, and part of me didn't either.

On September 10th, 2019 a part of me died with her. This day was exactly 5 years ago today, I would love to just lie in bed all day and do nothing but as my father always says Macy would want us to continue living and all the beautiful things that she could no longer experience for her continue to experience. And I wouldn't have thought at this moment that this sentence would have a completely different impact on my life in a few hours.
