Vedang had moved the car forward. Though Akshvi didn't want to take any more help, Vedang couldn't just leave her alone in such an area, especially when she was injured. Seeing him go out of his way to help, despite her refusal, brought a faint smile to Akshvi's lips. She thought to herself, "Not that bad, Nightmare! At least not right now. Thank God, he's dropping me off at the hostel, or how would I have gone back on my own? It's getting dark, and this... leg injury..."
Just then, Vedang's voice broke her thoughts, "Would you tell me your address, Ms. Sinha? So I can drop you off."
Akshvi snapped out of her thoughts and said, "Umm... yes."
She gave him her hostel address. Her hostel was somewhere between Vedang's mansion and his office. In no time, they passed his mansion, and Vedang casually asked, "By the way... couldn't you find a flat or rented room here? Why are you staying in a hostel?"
"Because I get food from the mess without cooking," Akshvi blurted out without thinking.
"Huh?" Vedang raised an eyebrow, giving her a curious look.
Akshvi immediately realized what she had said in haste. What must this grumpy man be thinking of her now? How embarrassing! Trying to salvage the situation, she added, "What I meant was... the hostel felt safer. It's safer than living alone in a flat or rented room, so I thought staying in the hostel would be a better choice."
"Hm. Okay," Vedang replied.
Soon, the car stopped at the gate of her hostel. Seeing her arrive with a guy, the hostel guard started to hover nearby, since it was a girls' hostel, and guys were strictly prohibited. As Akshvi unbuckled her seatbelt, she said, "Thank you, Mr. Sehgal! For dropping me off."
"It's okay. I was the one who sent you to the site, so it's my responsibility to get you home safely," Vedang replied.
With a faint smile, Akshvi said, "Okay. Good night."
"Good night, Ms. Sinha," Vedang responded.
But just as Akshvi got out and tried to walk, she stumbled badly and let out a cry, "Ahh!"
The pain in her leg was still too much, making it impossible for her to even stand properly. Climbing two floors to reach her room felt impossible. She had to lean back against the car door for support. Seeing her struggle, Vedang quickly got out of the driver's seat and rushed to her side. "What happened? Still in a lot of pain?"
"Hmm. I can't walk," Akshvi said, tears welling up in her eyes.
Vedang extended his hand and said, "Come on, I'll help you to your room."
"No, Mr. Sehgal! I can manage," Akshvi said, noticing the guard watching them suspiciously.
Vedang, now slightly irritated, said, "Are you crazy? Did you fall on your head as a child?"
"Excuse me?" Akshvi asked in shock, seeing Vedang getting worked up.
"Yup. You can barely stand with your injured leg, and you think you can walk to your room? How? And I'm offering to help, but you're not even listening!" Vedang exclaimed.
