Sana stomped into the family mansion, her heels clicking sharply against the polished floors, her face set in frustration. The idea of marrying Jungwon had been nothing more than a joke—a fleeting impulse meant to rattle him, to put him on edge, to finally see him lose his cool and beg her to stop.
She’d imagined him stammering, pleading with her to call it off, just so she could have the satisfaction of winning, for once.
Instead, he’d kept his composure, flicked her on the forehead, and drove off without so much as a backward glance, leaving her with a stinging forehead and an even bigger problem.
If he’d just begged me, Sana thought irritably, I would’ve gladly told my parents it was all a misunderstanding.
But now, with the way he’d so effortlessly dismissed her, she was reluctant to let it go. Revenge would have to wait, though; right now, she had to contain the damage.
She took a steadying breath as she walked into the living room, where her parents sat comfortably on the couch, their faces still glowing from the “good news.” The sight of their excitement, all thanks to her impulsive declaration, made Sana’s blood boil.
They were already falling for it, dreaming of wedding bells, while she felt trapped in her own prank gone wrong.
Sana flopped down on a single armchair beside them, a strained smile on her face. "Mum, Dad," She started, her voice barely concealing her irritation.
Her mother looked up, still beaming. "Yes, honey?"
"About what I said earlier," Sana continued, choosing her words carefully, "You both didn’t take it seriously, right? You know it was just a… momentary joke?”
Her father raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "A joke?"
"Yes," She said, clearing her throat. "The part about me and Jungwon being close enough to… to get married. That wasn’t serious, okay? We were just messing around. So, there’s no need for any… announcements or plans." She forced a laugh, hoping her parents would laugh it off too.
But they didn’t.
Instead, her parents exchanged a long, silent look before her father finally spoke, a hint of something unreadable in his eyes. "Sana, I don’t think you should treat this so lightly."
Sana blinked, her heart sinking. Oh no.
"Honey, you’re getting older, and Jungwon is a good man," Her mother added, her tone more serious than Sana had ever heard before. "We’re not joking about this."
Sana’s mouth went dry. "Wait… Mum, Dad. Please, listen. We’re not even… like that. I mean, we’ve only known each other for two days. This whole thing was just to make him a bit… uncomfortable." She couldn’t help but mutter the last part, biting her lip as she tried to read their expressions.
Her father chuckled, though it wasn’t the reassuring sound she was hoping for. "Sana, we’ve listened to you all your life. We’ve given you your freedom and let you make your own choices. But just this once, maybe it’s time you listened to us."
Her mother chimed in, her tone gentle but firm. "Honey, you can’t just joke about things like this. When you say things like that in front of us, we’re going to take you seriously. Besides, it’s obvious that Jungwon makes you happy—even if you won’t admit it."
Me? Happy? Sana has no idea where that sightcame from because she was most definitely more annoyed than happy.
Sana clenched her fists, trying to keep her cool. "He doesn’t… make me happy. If anything, he drives me crazy!"
