“Goal!” The entire team cheered as Jungwon scored, and for the first time in months, he felt the rush of playing again.
His teammates seemed genuinely thrilled to have him back. Eight months away in Japan had made him rusty; he hadn’t found the time—or the friends—to keep up with football, and it showed.
The whistle blew, signaling halftime, and he walked off the field with his teammates.
“Nice game!” Sunghoon slapped him on the back as they jogged together with Sunoo. “Feels good to have our trio back.”
“Lies,” Jungwon replied, shaking his head. “I’m nowhere near where I used to be.”
“Cheer up, man. You’ll bounce back,” Sunoo reassured him, smiling.
But just then, the three noticed a quiet commotion from the sidelines. Everyone around the fence seemed to be looking in the same direction. Following their gaze, they saw a familiar figure sitting on a bench, a fan in one hand as she looked around, looking somehow both out of place and right at home.
Sunghoon nudged Jungwon with a smirk. “Isn’t that… Sana?”
Jungwon squinted, recognition dawning on him. Sana was sitting casually, dressed down in a simple crop top and sweatpants, fanning herself as if she hadn’t just flown across an entire country.
“Did she… fly all the way here?” He murmured, more to himself than anyone else.
Without another word, he walked toward her, leaving Sunghoon and Sunoo to exchange amused looks. Sana didn’t notice him until he was standing right in front of her.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, trying not to sound as baffled as he felt.
She looked up, her expression cool. “To see you. Is the game over? I want to take you somewhere.”
He raised an eyebrow, unable to mask his disbelief. “We’re only at halftime. When did you even get here?”
“Just now,” She replied nonchalantly.
“Just now? With what—” He stopped short as she cut in.
“With my private plane,” She said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “I can come and go whenever I want.”
“Private plane?” He repeated, shaking his head. “You’re supposed to be preparing for your showcase with MISAMO.”
She waved her hand dismissively. “I’m on a day off. That’s why I’m here. I’m bringing you to Japan. We need to pick out the wedding dress.”
Jungwon blinked, staring at her like she had lost her mind. She was already standing, looking at him expectantly, as if he would just follow her like it was nothing.
“No,” He said flatly.
Her eyes narrowed as she turned back to face him. “Don’t make this hard for me. I just want to get this over with quickly.”
“You want to get this over with?” He let out a short, incredulous laugh. “You seriously flew all the way here just to drag me off to Japan to pick out a wedding dress for a wedding I never even agreed to?”
She scowled, crossing her arms. “It’s not like I want to either! My dad’s going to kill me if we don’t pick something out soon.”
“Well, maybe you deserve it,” He shot back, his frustration bubbling over. “I’m not going.”
“Jungwon,” She sighed, her voice tight with frustration, “Just come with me. It won’t take long. You’ll be back by six.”
“No.” He turned his back on her, dismissing the whole ridiculous idea.
