Riley's POV
Leaving Clem's apartment and waiting downstairs until Clem texted me where the daycare was. I started driving the second she did. But it didn't take long for me to get lost.
Grumbling under my breath as I backed out of the dead end I drove in. It took me about five minutes before I decided to finally used the GPS on my phone to make my way to the daycare which took twenty more minutes to reach. During the time, I felt like something was...wrong...the other part of me was inching, clawing at me but I didn't know why so I just brushed it off and ignored it.
Stepping inside the daycare and looking around, an employee was quick to catch my attention. "Hello. Who are you?" She asked with a bright smile.
"Ah, I'm Riley McAvoy. I'm here for Elijah and Levi Wilson. My girlfriend, their mom, Clementine Wilson, called in before hand." The employee nodded her head. "Yes, Miss Wilson did call in to say someone else was picking the boys up but I will need to see some ID before I could hand the boys over to you." I nodded. That seems reasonable enough.
Taking out my wallet, I handed over my ID. The woman looked it over very carefully before giving it back to me after a minute. "Okay, I will go get the boys for you. It will only take a minute."
A minute actually turned into five before the woman came back with Elijah and Levi who were confused at the sight of me. "Where mama?" Elijah asked as I was handed Levi and their things. "She's back home."
Crouching down, I picked up Elijah and held him in my other arm. Saying goodbye to the woman before leaving. "Why?"
"Because she was busy."
"Why?"
"Because she was."
"Why?"
I sighed, opening the back door and settling the boys inside. Putting Levi in his car seat first and began to buck him in as he played with a tiny stuff bear he had. "Why do you ask so many questions, kid?"
"Cause I can." Elijah said like it was a fact, not even looking at me when he spoke. I rolled my eyes. Finishing buckling in Levi before moving to Mr. Why over here and getting in myself.
Didn't take long to get back on the road and back to the apartment. But I was flooded with worry and confusion when I pulled up to see cop cars and an ambulance.
Parking the car a little ways away, I took off my seatbelt and looked back at the boys. "Hey boys, stay here for a moment, okay? I'll be back soon."
"Okay!" Stepping out of my car, I shut the door. Looking around and my eyes landing on Elder Woods staring at the blue and red scene in front of her. "Elder Woods!" She turned her head to me as I rushed over. "What's going on?"
"I don't know. I just heard a lot of commotion and yelling so I called 911. I think something happened to Miss Clementine." My heart skipped a beat. Snapping back up the stairs, I saw the paramedics slowly taking down a stretcher with a person on it. Clem.
My eyes widened and I rushed over to the bottom of the steps only to be stopped by a police officer. "Ma'am, you can't go up there." I turned to him. "Where are you taking her?"
"The closest hospital most likely. Who are you ma'am? How do you know the victim?" The closest hospital? The closest hospital is the one where she works. "I'm her girlfriend. Her kids are in my car, I was picking them up from daycare."
"Okay, and how long ago was that?" Opening my mouth to answered, I paused and turned my head when the stretched reached the bottom. I had to hold myself back to not follow as the paramedics took Clem into the ambulance. "I was only gone for forty minutes at least."
Answered a few more questions before the officer left me alone, the ambulance having left a little hole ago. My mind was racing and I felt like I was going insane. I should have listened to my instinct and come back when I felt something was wrong. I could have stopped this. Could have prevented it from happening.
Taking a deep breath, I paused. Smelling a faint scent of a werewolf. A rogue more likely. I have to call dad-no, I have to call mom first.
I pulled out my phone and called my mom. She answered on the second ring. "Riley, I'm very busy right now-"
"Mom." I interrupted, holding back my tears. Mom instantly knew something was wrong. Her tone changed from annoyed to worry. "Riley? What's wrong?"
"It's Clem, mom. A rogue beat the crap out of her, mom." A tear rolling down my face, I threw my head back. Trying to calm down. "It's bad-really really bad." Mom cursed at the end of the line. "Which hospital are they're taking her?"
"The hospital where she works I think."
"Good, I'm already here. I'll be waiting for her in the ER and treat her myself." That's good, mom is an amazing doctor. She stood up judging from a chair scratching against the floor. "Everything is going to be alright, Riley. I promise you that."
"Okay. Thanks, mom." Hanging up, I called dad next. It took him a while for him to answer. "Riley, need something?" I nodded, feeling anger bubble inside my chest. "Yeah. I need you to find a rogue for me."
"May I ask why?"
"So I can kill the fucker."
