The Next Morning

Jane and Maura are in the kitchen drinking coffee and talking about the baby.

Maura: Why do you look frightened?

Jane: (breaths deeply) I got to thinking last night and I'm scared to have a baby.

Angela overhears her.

Angela: Of course you're scared.

They look at her.

Jane: There's the support I was looking for.

Angela: Okay, nothing about giving birth or raising children is easy. You caused me a whole bunch of trouble. But I wouldn't trade it for a minute! Because you've been my greatest joy! [grunts] And your child will do the same for you. Fear is normal. Keeps us on our toes.

Jane: Thanks, Ma. What kind of problems could I have possibly caused you?

Angela: Don't get me started. She threw a football through Mr. Mac's front window.

Jane: (inhales deeply) That was Casey.

Angela: You made him.

Later that Morning @ BPD

Korsak walks into the bullpen with Frost.

Maura: I've been waiting for you, two.

Korsak: Did you get a reply to my job application?

Maura: We got an automated response that the job had been filled.

Korsak: Then why are you smiling?

Maura: Because I started thinking if we got an automated response, maybe the other guys who applied got the same thing.

Korsak: I like where this is going.

Maura: So I contacted the website and got the e-mail addresses of the other men who received the same automated response.

Korsak: You think one of them may have interacted with the killer?

Maura: Mm-hmm. One actually met for the job. And he's waiting in the interview room right now.

Korsak: Early bird, meet worm.

Interview Room with Guy

Guy: I answered the ad and, uh, got a reply from this guy Greg.
We met at a diner for the interview.

Korsak: Did you get his last name?

Guy: No.

Korsak: What can you tell us about him?

Guy: Seemed like a good guy. We both liked bikes bonded over Harleys.

Korsak: What kind of Harley you got?

Guy: '77 Electra Glide.

Maura: I bet Greg liked the bike.

Guy: Oh, yeah. Yeah. And he was impressed, too, you know, that even through all the hard times, I found a way to hang on to it.

Korsak: Well, sounds like you two really hit it off.

Guy: We did.

Maura: Well, why didn't you get the job?

Guy: (chuckles) He, uh, he got pissed when he found out I had a girlfriend. I hadn't mentioned that on the application.

Maura: What did Greg look like?

Guy: White guy, mid-50s, big maybe 6'5", long, gray hair pulled back in a ponytail.

Maura: Where did you meet him?

Guy: (inhales) Bayview diner in Southie.

Maura's cellphone buzzes.

Maura: Frost's looking for us. Okay. Thank you very much, Steve.

Steve: So, what did this guy do?

Maura: Well, let's just say you're lucky this is the one job you didn't get.

They walk out.

Frost: I sent the photo to the local sheriff where the farm was located. He remembers the family that owned the place, the Danielsons. According to bankruptcy records, the dad, Harry, lost it to the bank in 1984.

Maura: You think Harry's our killer?

Frost:  No. He's deceased. But his son, Greg, might be.

Korsak: Description matches.

Frost: And Greg seems to have dropped off the radar in the late '90s.

Maura: That's about the time the murders began.

Frost: Yeah.

Korsak: Maura, you thinking what I'm thinking?

Maura: Yeah. It's never too early for lunch.
