May 4thAs they drove through the winding backroads of West Virginia, the late afternoon sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink. The Impala's engine purred steadily, and the familiar scent of leather and gasoline filled the car. Dean glanced at the dashboard clock and then at Sam, who was flipping through some notes in the passenger seat.
"Hey, Sammy." Dean said, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between them. "You know what today is?"
Sam looked up, a knowing smirk already forming on his lips. "If you say it's May the Fourth be with you...I'm going to kill you."
"May the Fourth be with you!" Dean exclaimed, unable to suppress his grin. "It's a holiday for Star Wars nerds like us!"
Sam sighed but couldn't hide his amusement. "I knew it. Just because you're about to become a dad doesn't mean you can start acting like a kid again."
"Oh, come on!" Dean laughed, swerving the car slightly to emphasize his point. "You can't tell me you don't feel even a little bit excited about it. I mean, we're on our way to see Sheva, and it's Star Wars Day! It's practically a sign."
"Yeah, a sign that you're about to be a dad who makes terrible jokes." Sam quipped, rolling his eyes. "But seriously, we're almost there. You should focus on the important stuff."
"Important stuff like teaching our kid to use the Force?" Dean shot back, a playful glint in his eyes. "I mean, who wouldn't want a Jedi for a son? Just imagine—little Luke Winchester, saving the galaxy one hunt at a time."
Sam chuckled, shaking his head. "You do realize that Star Wars is just a movie, right? You can't just make our kid a Jedi because you want him to be."
"Why not?" Dean replied, feigning innocence. "It's all about believing in possibilities! Plus, I've got the perfect name. Ren Winchester. How badass is that?"
Sam said, crossing his arms with a mock-serious expression. "We already have enough drama in our lives without adding the Galactic Empire to the mix."
Dean laughed, the sound echoing through the car. "Hey, I'm just saying, if our kid turns out to be strong with the Force, maybe we can finally get some peace and quiet around here."
"Right, because that's how it works," Sam replied dryly, but there was a hint of a smile on his face. "Maybe a little Jedi training will help him deal with all the supernatural craziness."
"Exactly! We'll train him to be the ultimate hunter—part Jedi, part Winchester." Dean said, his excitement bubbling over. "I can already see it! 'The Force is strong with this one!'"
Just then, Castiel, who had been quietly listening in the backseat, spoke up. "I believe the phrase is 'The Force is strong with him.'"
Dean turned around, grinning. "See, Cas? You're in on the fun too! You can be our kid's Yoda. Just don't go speaking in riddles—nobody understands you, when you do that."
"I am not Yoda." Castiel replied. "I will not be a small green creature who speaks backward."
"Aw, come on! You'd make a perfect Yoda." Dean laughed, glancing back at the road. "Just think about it. You could teach him how to channel his supernatural powers. 'Use the Force, Ren . Let it flow through you!'"
"Dean, you do realize you're mixing metaphors?" Sam interjected, shaking his head as he attempted to keep a straight face. "You can't just throw in every sci-fi reference you know."
"Why not?" Dean said, grinning like a child. "This is a special day! May the Fourth is all about celebrating the nerd in all of us."
As they continued to banter back and forth, the miles flew by, and Dean's excitement.
"Hey, by the way, Cas." Dean said casually, glancing in the rearview mirror. "You're tagging along to keep an eye on us, right? Not just because you want to hang out with the cool kids?"
"I am here to ensure your safety," Castiel replied, his tone matter-of-fact. "But I do enjoy spending time with you both."
"See? We're like a family." Dean said, a warmth spreading through him. "A dysfunctional, nerdy family, but a family nonetheless."
"Just remember, if I have to intervene to protect you from any intergalactic threats, I certainly will." Castiel added, his expression serious but with a hint of amusement.
"If I ever leave the bedroom." Dean scoffed to himself.
"What was that?" Castiel caught on.
"Oh nothing. Got it, Cas. You'll be our celestial bodyguard." Dean replied with a grin. "Now, let's go see Sheva and start planning our little Jedi's future!"
As they approached West Virginia, Dean felt a rush of anticipation. This was the moment he had been waiting for—the chance to see what the Force had in store for him.
