Hezekiah's POV

"ANY questions, class?"

I remember the principal encouraging teachers to be more creative in hooking the students. One of my co-teachers even jokingly said, "Kailangan pa ho ba naming kumain ng apoy?" It's an exaggeration, but sadly, students wanted a spectacle in order for them to be engaged, like how they're all addicted to the small screens of their cell phones.

However, I still firmly believe that teachers should not compromise the quality of their lessons. Teachers are not entertainers; they are responsible for educating and shaping the values of every student.

"What do you think remains consistent among early civilization's religions?" I rhetorically asked the whole class. "Almost every belief system has some concept of giving up something important to honor a higher purpose or deity, whether it's offering food, time, or even committing one's life to service."

"In Christianity, for instance, the ultimate example of sacrifice is Jesus Christ's crucifixion," I smiled when I said that. "His life, given freely, is believed to have redeemed humanity, an act that resonates deeply within Christian thought." One student raised a hand and I called her. "Yes?"

"As stated po, Father, sa John chapter three verse sixteen," sabi nito. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

"Correct, that's true," I commended. "God sacrificed His best in order to save us." Tiningnan ko silang lahat bago ako nagpatuloy. "Let's do a quick icebreaker. I want each of you to think about you value deeply—whether it's an object, a goal, or even a relationship. Imagine if, for the sake of someone or something more important, you had to give it up. Would you do it? And why?"

I saw a mix of expressions—thoughtful, hesitant, some students scribbling their answers on paper.
