The flight from Jakarta to New York was long and exhausting, but Liam couldn't shake the excitement that coursed through his veins. As the plane descended, he pressed his face against the window, gazing out at the sprawling city beneath him. New York-the city of dreams. It felt surreal to think that after years of working at a small administrative job back home in Indonesia, he was finally about to take the plunge into the unknown. His heart pounded with anticipation, but underneath the thrill, a quiet fear lingered.

He had left behind a life of comfort, a steady but small job in a quiet office in Jakarta, to chase something bigger. He didn't have much, but what he did have was a family that depended on him. His mother's health had been steadily declining, and his father, though a hard worker, couldn't manage the medical bills and expenses on his own. They had sacrificed so much for him to get an education, and now it was time for him to do his part.

Before he left, he had promised his mother that he would return with a job that would help pay for her treatment and ease the financial burden on his family. It was this promise that pushed him through the hardest days leading up to his departure.

Back in Jakarta

Just weeks before his departure, Liam had been sitting in his modest apartment, scrolling through job boards late one night. The familiar weight of frustration hung over him as he scrolled through countless job listings, each one a reminder of how hard it was to get a real break in his small town. He had tried to find something that could offer more-something that could help him take care of his family-but most of the positions he saw were in fields that didn't quite align with his skills or interests.

Then, a headline caught his eye. It was almost too good to be true: TrueSkin Company - Seeking Personal Secretary for CEO.

Liam's breath caught in his throat. He'd heard of TrueSkin, though only in passing. It was an international skincare company with a stellar reputation. He couldn't even imagine being part of such a prestigious organization. He had no idea how a small-town man like him could ever be qualified to work for them, but something inside him stirred. He had always wanted more for himself and his family.

He had no experience with such high-level positions, but what he did have was an unshakable drive. Liam had spent years working in administrative roles in Indonesia, handling documents, managing schedules, and organizing office operations. It wasn't glamorous, but it had taught him how to juggle multiple tasks at once, how to stay calm under pressure, and how to keep things running smoothly.

The position at TrueSkin, though, felt like an opportunity that came out of nowhere. A personal secretary to the CEO? It seemed impossible. But as he thought about the mounting medical bills, his mother's condition, and the dreams he'd held onto since he was young, he realized that this might be the chance he needed.

He hesitated only for a moment before he clicked on the application link, his hands shaking slightly. He knew this was his shot, and he wasn't going to let it slip by. He carefully wrote his resume, highlighting every detail of his work experience, even though he knew he was not a perfect fit for the role. Still, he sent the application, closing his laptop with a quiet hope that maybe, just maybe, someone would see the potential he believed he had.

The Arrival in New York

Now, as Liam stood at the edge of the bustling streets of New York, everything felt more real than ever before. The city was alive with noise and movement, people rushing in every direction. The tall skyscrapers loomed above him like giants, and the scent of street food mixed with the occasional rush of car exhaust in the air. This was the place that had always felt like a dream, and now, here he was, on the edge of making it his reality.

He had taken the leap, leaving his life in Indonesia behind with only a small suitcase and a few hundred dollars. He had a place to stay with a distant relative in Brooklyn, but everything else was up in the air. He didn't know anyone in the city, and he had no job lined up. He needed to find something, anything, to get him started. He had come this far, and failure was not an option.

The TrueSkin interview he had secured in just a few short weeks was a lifeline, and Liam's thoughts kept returning to it as he navigated the busy streets. His stomach churned with nerves at the thought of the upcoming interview. It was everything he had worked for, but the closer he got to it, the more daunting it seemed.

The Phone Call

Liam had only been in New York for a few days when his phone buzzed, breaking him out of his thoughts. He looked down to see an unfamiliar number.

"Hello?" he answered hesitantly, wondering if it was just a telemarketer.

"Hello, is this Mr. Liam Dirgantara?" the voice on the other end asked.

"This is him," Liam said, his heart skipping a beat.

"I'm calling from TrueSkin Company. We received your application for the position of personal secretary to our CEO, and after reviewing your resume, we'd like to invite you to interview with us next week."

Liam's mind went blank for a second, but he quickly regained his composure. "Of course. I'll be there," he said, his voice stronger than he felt.

The reality of it hit him all at once. The interview was confirmed. He had made it through the first hurdle. Now, it was all about preparing, showing them that he was the right person for the job. But even though he had earned the chance to prove himself, doubts lingered in the back of his mind. He wasn't sure he was ready for the high expectations that would come with the role.

As he hung up, a sense of purpose washed over him. He had come all the way from Indonesia for this. He couldn't afford to let this opportunity slip through his fingers. His mother's treatments, his family's future-it all depended on this.

Preparing for the Interview

Liam spent the next few days preparing. He pored over TrueSkin's website, researching its history, its CEO, and its products. The more he learned about the company, the more in awe he became of the work they did. They were leaders in the industry, a company that seemed untouchable from the outside. And now, he was about to walk into their headquarters for an interview with the CEO's office.

He practiced his answers in front of the mirror, imagining the questions he might face. "Why should we hire you?" "What makes you stand out?" He knew the answers, but he needed to convey them with confidence. The last thing he wanted was to sound like just another nervous applicant.

Every day, his anxiety grew. The city, with all its excitement, also seemed full of obstacles. He felt small in the shadow of the skyscrapers, unsure of how he fit into this vast, fast-moving world. But he couldn't go back now. He had left everything behind to get here.

The Day of the Interview

The morning of the interview arrived, and Liam stepped into the lobby of TrueSkin's headquarters, his nerves at a boiling point. He looked up at the sleek, glass building and thought about everything he had given up to make it here.

As he waited for his name to be called, Liam reminded himself of his promise to his family-this was for them. And with that thought in mind, he felt a renewed sense of determination. He wasn't going to let fear hold him back. This was his chance, and he would take it, no matter what.
