The next morning, Y/N walked into class with her head held high, a mask of indifference firmly in place. She had spent the night in her own room, the coldness in the apartment still lingering, and the reality of her relationship with Taehyung sinking in. But today, she wasn’t going to let anything break her. Not Ms. Lee, not Taehyung, not the growing ache inside her chest.
As she entered the classroom, Ms. Lee was already there, waiting by the blackboard, her sharp gaze falling on Y/N as soon as she stepped inside. There was a strange satisfaction in Ms. Lee’s eyes, something that made Y/N’s stomach churn.
“Y/N,” Ms. Lee called out, her tone as icy as it had been the day before. “You’re late. But I suppose that’s nothing new, considering your priorities.”
Y/N clenched her jaw, but she didn’t reply. She wasn’t going to give Ms. Lee the satisfaction of seeing her rattled. Not today. Not anymore.
Ms. Lee continued, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "It must be so difficult for you to balance marriage and your studies, I’m sure. A young girl with so much on her plate. Don’t you feel... overwhelmed? Do you even care about your future at all, Y/N?"
Y/N could feel the blood rushing to her face, her hands curling into fists by her sides. Every word out of Ms. Lee’s mouth was like a needle, stabbing deeper and deeper into her. But she kept her composure, holding her chin high, refusing to show how much it was affecting her.
“I do care,” Y/N replied, her voice surprisingly steady. “Maybe more than you think.”
Ms. Lee smirked, clearly enjoying the control she had over Y/N. “You’re so used to playing the role of the ‘perfect girl,’ aren’t you? Pretending like everything’s fine, like you have it all figured out. But deep down, I can see the truth. You’re not as strong as you pretend to be. You’re just a scared little girl hiding behind a marriage that’s nothing more than a distraction.”
Y/N’s heart thudded painfully in her chest. She could feel her tough exterior cracking. Ms. Lee was right—Taehyung, the separation, everything—it was all falling apart, and Y/N couldn’t stop it. She wanted to scream, to lash out, to make Ms. Lee understand how wrong she was, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t let anyone see her break.
But Ms. Lee wasn’t done yet. She took a step closer, her voice lowering, almost sweetly. “You’ve lost, Y/N. You think you’re playing a game, but you’re not. I’ve already won, and you’re just... wasting your time, chasing after something that will never be enough. You’re not good enough. And you never will be.”
The words hit like a punch to the gut, leaving Y/N breathless. Her vision blurred for a moment, her emotions swirling in a dangerous storm of anger, hurt, and frustration. The burning desire to slap that smug look off Ms. Lee’s face was overwhelming. She raised her hand without thinking, her body acting on pure instinct.
But just as she was about to swing, a voice—Taehyung’s voice—cut through the tension, freezing her in place.
“Y/N, don’t.”
Y/N’s hand stopped mid-air, her heart racing. She spun around, her chest tightening at the sight of Taehyung standing in the doorway, his eyes wide with anger and disbelief. He was furious, but not in the way she expected. There was no warmth in his gaze, no softness, only a sharpness that made her stomach twist.
“You think hitting her will make you feel better?” Taehyung’s voice was low, dangerous, and full of reproach. His eyes flickered to Ms. Lee for a moment before returning to Y/N. “Is this what you’ve become? Is this how you deal with your problems now?”
