It was a quiet night, and the house was filled with the soft hum of silence. Y/N had retreated to the bathroom, the sound of water running through the pipes the only indication of her presence. Taehyung sat on their bed, absentmindedly scrolling through his phone, his mind still lingering on the tension that had grown between them over the past few hours.
He wanted to fix things, but something was holding him back, something he couldn't quite put into words. They were getting closer, yet he hadn't said the words that could cement their relationship-words that she might be waiting for, words that meant more than actions alone.
As he stared at his phone, the screen suddenly lit up with a notification from Y/N's phone, which was resting on the nightstand. Normally, Taehyung wouldn't think twice about her messages, respecting her privacy, but his eyes caught the preview of the message-it was from their group chat with Jungkook and Jimin.
Curiosity got the better of him, and without really thinking, he unlocked her phone, his thumb hovering over the chat thread.
Jungkook: "So... has he confessed yet?? 👀👀"
Jimin: "Yeah, seriously, Y/N... has Taehyung told you he loves you or are you still waiting for that moment? 😏"
Jungkook: "And come on, don't keep us in the dark-have you kissed yet? 😝"
Taehyung blinked at the messages, his heart sinking as the realization hit him hard. Y/N had been waiting, hoping for him to confess. They had shared moments, intimacy, and a growing bond, but he had never truly voiced his feelings-never said those three important words.
It was no wonder she had felt insecure earlier. The entire time she was by his side, feeling as though something was missing, something he should have given her a long time ago.
He swallowed, guilt welling up inside him. Of course she was uncertain-he hadn't made it clear. He hadn't told her how much he loved her, how much she meant to him. And even though his actions had spoken for him, it wasn't enough. She needed to hear it.
Determination surged within him as he locked the phone and placed it back on the nightstand. He wasn't going to let another night pass by without her knowing how much he cared. Tonight, he would tell her. Tonight, he would confess.
The soft patter of water hitting the tiles in the bathroom echoed through the quiet room as Taehyung sat on the edge of the bed, deep in thought. The dim lighting cast shadows across the room, and the stillness only made the weight of his thoughts heavier.
Y/N had been inside the bathroom for what felt like hours, and though Taehyung knew she needed space, he couldn't shake the guilt that was gnawing at him. The messages from Jungkook and Jimin replayed in his mind, their teasing questions cutting deeper than they intended. It wasn't their fault. The problem was him.
He hadn't told her. He hadn't confessed.
Taehyung ran a hand through his hair, exhaling deeply. His chest tightened with the realization that Y/N had probably been waiting for those words, the ones he should have said long ago. Even with the closeness they had shared, the moments that had brought them nearer to each other, he had never actually said what needed to be said.
The sound of the water stopped abruptly, and moments later, the bathroom door opened. Steam billowed out into the room, followed by Y/N, who emerged with her hair damp and her body wrapped in a soft towel. She moved quietly, her gaze momentarily catching his before she turned to the closet, rifling through it for something to wear.
Taehyung stood, his heart racing, as he tried to find the right words. His throat felt dry, the weight of his confession making it hard to speak. But he had to. He couldn't let another moment pass without telling her the truth.
