Tucker's POV

Rowen had gotten a girlfriend. I'm the mere days we hadn't been burrying our hands in each others hair, he had gotten one. A distraction, I would say. I needed one too.  He had become a bit distant lately and it seemed as though he was ignoring me. It was as though we're both lost in our own worlds and didn't want anyone else to interfere. But it was hard to stay focused and pretend like nothing has changed between us. Especially after all the kissing. He still assured me nothing had changed even with his new girl.

As I went to leave, I saw Caesar, another kid at my school, asking out someone to the dance. A boy. How unheard of. How brave of him. Why couldn't I do that? Why couldn't I ask Rowen to the dance?

I knew why. He didn't want to be seen with me like that in public.  He didn't want to risk people finding out that he liked guys, especially me. I sighed and left. Maybe it was best if I left Rowen alone. But as the thought entered my brain, Rowen called me.
"H-Hello?" my voice sounded absolutely starstruck he even deigned to call me at all.
"Hey Tucker! Wanna go tuxedo shopping for the dance with me?" his tone was so casual. Way too casual for what we were— in my head at least. "Sure." I at last replied, grinnng a bit as we met up.

"Red or blu-" I cut off Rowen. "Red." he smiled at that. The red suit looked astounding on him I thought I might die. A great big guy like me, barely keeping it together for a tuxedo try on with his straight best friend. Straight, like him. Like he told himself.
"Okay. What about shoes?" he continued as we stepped out of the changing room and into the main aisle where all the men's clothes were displayed. I nodded in agreement, following him down the aisle, taking in the racks of suits, ties and blazers.
"You should get a red one too so we match." Rowen exclaimed to me. I blushed and nodded, grabbing a suit I deemed fit. After shopping, we sat down to rest.

I could feel the words rising in my throat. "So...who are you.." I trailed off, "Uh. going to the dance with?" I bet I sounded like an idiot.
"Probably no one. My girlfriend is busy that day." The sad look on his face felt feigned.
"Ah." I looked away. Come on Tucker, just ask. Right as I was about to open my mouth, Rowen grabbed my hand. "A treat for Tucker?" he asked, kissing me on the cheek quickly. Like it was nothing. Like it meant nothing. And we left.
