The excitement in the air was palpable as word got out that the judges for the Karate Sekai Taikai had come to California in search of their next big break. The dojo was buzzing with anticipation. This was the opportunity they had all been waiting for-an international spotlight, a chance to showcase their skills on a global stage. Miguel had already driven nearly the entire group to karate that day. His black jeep roared down the street, the sound of tires hitting the pavement matching the group's heightened energy.

Miguel sat behind the wheel, his hands steady and confident as always. In the front passenger seat sat Alessia, her attention diverted between the phone in her hand and the scenery outside the window. The middle row was filled with Robby, Eli, and Demetri. The three had settled into an easy rhythm, with Robby and Demetri chatting comfortably, but Eli and Alessia... Well, it was still a little awkward. They hadn't really talked much since the tension that had hung between them after their near-encounter at the waterpark. But the group had gotten closer over time, and Eli had patched things up with Robby, so now, he was talking to Alessia again. But Alessia couldn't help but feel that same awkwardness. She knew Eli had a crush on her, and though she wasn't sure how to deal with it, she felt uncomfortable around him.

In the back, Alessia and Eli were trying to stay comfortable, leaning against the sides of the vehicle as the rest of the group continued to talk animatedly. Despite the awkwardness between her and Eli, Alessia found herself focused on the phone in her lap. Eli had pulled up past Sekai Taikai tournament footage, and they had been glued to the screen for the entire ride, their jaws dropping in amazement at the incredible feats they saw. The athletes were nearly defying gravity, pulling off insane kicks, flipping mid-air, and performing moves that seemed impossible.

"Who knew people could kick that high?" Alessia breathed, her eyes wide with awe.

Eli laughed, glancing over at her. "Or that hard." His grin spread across his face, a mixture of admiration and excitement. The two of them had been watching the same footage, both marveling at the ridiculous skill on display.

Alessia immediately nodded, her gaze meeting his. She felt a spark of admiration for him. Despite the awkwardness between them, there was something genuinely captivating about how passionate he was about karate.
