I simply sat there, surrounded by flames. This was a good way to go out. I grinned and touched them. They didn't burn my hands. I knew that they would burn the rest of my body though, and I laughed. This would be fun.
"Chris! Chris!!" A voice from the outside, extremely muffled, called to me. I smiled and edged forward.
"I am present." I replied calmly and I heard a sigh from the other side of the door. A strange scuffling noise started to issue from that direction and I frowned.
"Hey, let me go!" The girl shouted and the door burst open. She ran to me and grabbed hold of me.
"Now we're both gonna die!" I exclaimed, eyes wide. She leaned forward and kissed me on the lips quickly. I stared into her eyes in confusion and suddenly everything started to come back to me, including my sanity. Thalia.
"Chris? Can you understand me?" She asked hurriedly and I nodded.
"Yeah. I'm so sorry, Thalia. We need to get out of here." I said, and grabbed her tightly. She yelped in surprise and I started to rise up, much to the surprise of the guards. I rose to the top of the room and saw a small hatch on the ceiling. Thalia almost saw my thought process and unlatched the hatch quickly. I squinted as the sun blinded me momentarily and saw that it had had the same effect on Thalia.
"What do we do now?" She asked and I closed my eyes.
"We need to get back on the ground before we do anything else. This is exhausting." Thalia looked at me with wide eyes and I levitated down to the ground.
"You seem...more sane." She said, looking at me suspiciously. I nodded.
"Yeah, I'm really sorry for what you saw in there. That wasn't me." She nodded and smiled.
"Well, as long as the Christopher I know is back, then that's all that matters." I grinned but it was short lived. Guards started rushing towards us from the main entrance, and I was pretty sure that one of them was holding a tranquilliser gun. I stood my ground.
"You'd better let me go." I threatened, knowing that I would easily be able to get rid of them. Before I knew it, one of the tranquilliser darts was sticking into my shoulder. I started towards the guards, anger clouding my vision before I realised that something else was also clouding my vision. Blinking, I watched as the world went hazy and I ripped the dart from my shoulder, causing a scream to issue from my mouth. The guards calmly walked towards me and I fell to my knees, all of my energy used up. I started to crawl on my hands and feet and the last thing I remembered before I blacked out was my own hand pointing straight at the guards.
**********
I woke to the sound of a car engine running. Rubbing my eyes, I frowned as I tried to wake myself up properly. What was going on?
"Hey, boo." Thalia looked over to me and smiled. I was in the back seat of her Range Rover, laying down. Quickly, I sat up and rubbed my head.
"What happened...?" I asked her groggily and she laughed.
"You got rid of the guards just before you became unconscious. Your power caused a wall of fire to appear in front of them." I frowned. I didn't remember doing that!
Trust me, it was awesome.
I jumped in my seat as Sam's voice spoke in my mind.
You saw?! How?
I asked him. Thalia looked at me weirdly and I smiled at her in reassurance.
I could feel your power. We're connected.
I nodded and looked out of the window of the car.
Can I meet you?
I knew I had to ask it sooner or later. After all, this Sam was supposedly something to do with my childhood.
Maybe soon.
He said ambiguously and I felt the connection between us break. Why was he so afraid of meeting me? I just needed some answers, that's all.
"You okay back there, Chris? You look nervous." I looked up suddenly and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just thinking about all the stuff that's happened so far." I lied and continued to look out of the window. I wasn't sure why I was so reluctant to tell her about Sam. Probably because she would tell me to never talk to him again.
"We're gonna have to fight Serpius at some point." She said with a sigh and I closed my eyes. It was true. At some point we would have to stop running from the inevitable.
"Yeah. But when we do, we're gonna destroy him and walk out together. I won't let him kill either of us." She nodded and smiled.
"Your hope gives me hope." She whispered to herself but I heard. The car stopped finally and I saw that we were in a car park. Getting out, I caught a whiff of salt and a strong breeze hit me.
"Where are we?" I asked in confusion. She just smiled.
"I wanted to do something nice for you. We haven't really done anything properly as a couple yet." I smiled and she walked forward, out of the car park. I followed.
The sun blinded me as I stepped out of the shadows of the buildings. Thalia smiled back at me and I grinned when I saw my surroundings. We were at a beach. An ice cream shop sat just to the left of me and a smoothie one was to my right. The beautiful white sand shone brightly and children ran across it, this way and that. The sea was a turquoise colour and the sun glinted off of it, causing me to blink a couple of times.
"Woah...I haven't been to the beach in so long. It's beautiful." I said in awe and Thalia grabbed my hand.
"Wanna go swimming?" She asked and I nodded.
"But all of my swim stuff is at the treehouse." I said sadly and she smiled widely. I looked down as she held out a bag to me.
"I've been waiting to take you to the beach for a long time. So I kept your swim stuff in the car for ages." I was touched by that. We both went into the toilets to change into our swim wear. As she emerged, she grabbed my hand and we ran together, laughing. It must've been at least 34 degrees Celsius and I frowned. England never got that hot. Suddenly, we both cooled down as we entered the water. I shuddered almost immediately but we kept going, running until we couldn't stand up. Thalia looked at me with wide eyes and a huge smile. I went underwater and opened my eyes, ignoring the stinging. Feeling around, I found Thalia's legs and grabbed them. I surfaced and heard her scream in surprise. She now rested on my shoulders.
"Chris, don't do that!" She exclaimed with a giggle. I laughed and started to swim, causing her to rock back and forth. She grabbed hold of my shoulders tightly and I smirked. Suddenly, I rolled onto my side, throwing her off. She yelped and her head popped up a few feet away with an annoyed expression on her face. I grinned at her innocently. Just as I was about to swim towards her, I felt someone watching us. I looked to my left and saw a slight disturbance in the water.
Someone had definitely been watching us.
