Saphira's POV
Things weren't looking great for Nami. Wini checked her temperature and sucked a breath through her clenched teeth. "40°C! Her fever is going up." Usopp looked to Vivi, "There'll be doctors once we get to Alabasta, right?" Vivi bites her fingernails in worry, "I don't think we can possibly get there within a week." Wini glances at her as she stirred a bowl of green goo. "Yeah, with how her condition is worsening every minute, she won't hold out that long." Sanji frowns at the strange substance that Wini made. "What is that? Don't tell me you're going to feed her that."
"This will boost her immune system and help her fight the bug's poison." Sanji cringed in disgust as he watches Wini feed Nami the green goo. "Is being sick really that painful?" Luffy asked Sanji and Usopp. They tilt their heads in confusion, "I dunno, I've never been sick before." Vivi was shocked by their answers, "Just what are you people!?" I was curious too. There's no way they haven't fallen ill at least once in their lives. Right? Back home, before the virus, I remember a few times I've fallen ill. It was never anything serious, just the common cold. But, after the virus, we can't get sick anymore.
Wini catches everyone's attention as she puts the empty bowl down on the nightstand. "A 40°C fever is a dire matter." She looks everyone in the eyes to convey how serious she is. "That means this may be life-threatening." She scratches behind her head when she realized something, "Actually, this is definitely life-threatening." Her words sent everyone into a panic. "Nami's gonna die?!" Vivi got ticked off by their chaotic behavior. "Pull yourselves together and quiet down!" Her words just flew over their heads. "We need to find a doctor!" I just sigh at their comical behavior. I glance to Wini when I noticed how quiet she is.
She was frowning worriedly at Nami. I stood next to her and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. I know there was something else that's bothering her. "Are you alright?" Wini's face fell a bit, "I'm just thinking of all those times that I couldn't do anything to save them..." I frown at her words. I know what she was talking about. She was too young to have really done anything, even so, I know she felt terrible for not trying harder. Granny Lilo... Charlie... The memory of them will always haunt her and I know there's nothing I can do to lift that burden from her shoulders. "You've grown Wini. You're more experienced now. I believe in you. You'll save her... I know you will."
She silently nods her head at my words, "I'll give it my all, I promise." I smile at seeing her look of determination. "Atta girl!" She smiles gratefully up at me. She quickly went to her bag of goodies and digged around. My brow twitches when I realized that the idiots were still making a ruckus."Shut up, you idiots! You're going to disturb her!" They pause at my shout. At their silence, Nami suddenly spoke up. "No..." She sat up right in her bed. Nami was panting and sweating, the sickness was doing a number on her. "In my desk drawer...there's a newspaper." When she mentioned the newspaper, I knew what she was doing.
I watch with worry as Vivi stood up and walked to Nami's desk drawer. I already snuck a glimps at the newspaper, and it wasn't good news. Vivi took out the newspaper and read it, "This can't be true..." Sanji, Usopp, Luffy and Wini pause in what their doing as they watch Vivi. "300,000 Imperial Soldiers have defected to join the Rebel Army." Her brows furrow deeper, "At the outset, there were 600,000 Imperial Soldiers suppressing 400,000 rebels...But, in one stroke, the odds have..." Vivi couldn't even finish her sentence. Wini looked to me, confused on what was going on. 'Right, we haven't had a chance to talk yet. I need to get her up to date with everything.'
I mouthed to her 'later'. She just shrugs as she went to attend to Nami. Nami let's Wini work as she kept talking with Vivi, "Now the rebellion in Alabasta will start to gain momentum. That paper's from three days ago." Wini lightly pushed at Nami's shoulders, trying to get her to lay back down. Nami sighs as she didn't have the strength to fight her. "I thought that it would cause you unnecessary stress, so I hid it." Nami gave Vivi a small apology smile before glancing at Luffy. "Do you understand, Luffy?" Luffy frowned at her, "I got the impression that things are very bad." Usopp quickly cut in, "But, if we don't get you to a doctor soon..." Nami tried to reasure all of us. "I'm fine, that thermometer's just broken."
