The cafeteria was in ruins. The once lively area had been transformed into a battlefield, but it was slowly returning to a somber quiet. The mafia members had been dealt with, and the students of U.A. were in shock, trying to process what they had just witnessed. The air was still thick with tension, but Y/N, the girl they all thought they knew, had already turned her back on it.
She was walking with her friends—Tomo, Jun, Misuzu, and Kai—her footsteps echoing in the silence of the cafeteria. She had just ordered Inoshita to ensure the injured students were taken to the infirmary, her voice colder than ever as she gave orders with the precision of someone who had been trained in such matters since birth.
But before they could leave, Bakugo’s voice cut through the air, raw with emotion and anger.
“Y/N!” Bakugo shouted, his voice loud enough to make her pause. The other students were still stunned, looking between her and Bakugo, unsure of what was going to happen next. “Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you trust me? Why didn’t you tell me about your past?”
His words rang out like a slap across the room. Y/N’s eyes narrowed, her lips thinning as she slowly turned to face him. The intensity in her eyes could have burned through stone.
“I didn’t tell you,” she said, her voice as cold and sharp as ice, “because you don’t need to know. Who are you, Bakugo? Why should I tell you anything about myself?”
There it was. The truth she had been holding back. The truth that she had buried deep within her heart to protect herself from the pain of losing him. She had already lost so much—her sister, her family, her friends. The people she loved. She couldn’t afford to lose Bakugo too.
Her words sliced through the silence like a blade. “You are nothing to me, Bakugo. You’re not part of this world. This world I’m in—it’s too dangerous. You can’t survive it. I won’t let you.”
Tomo, who had been walking quietly beside her, flinched at her words. She hadn’t expected this—Y/N’s coldness had been so abrupt, so final. But she knew why. Y/N was protecting him. Protecting her heart. Her feelings for Bakugo had been clear, but this world, this dangerous, blood-soaked world she came from, was not something Bakugo could ever understand. And Y/N couldn’t risk his life by involving him in it.
“Y/N…” Bakugo said again, his voice hoarse. “I love you. I didn’t care about all that stuff. I just wanted you to trust me.”
Y/N's heart twisted at the words. But she couldn’t let herself break. Not now. She couldn’t let herself feel the warmth of his love, not when her enemies were watching her every move, ready to strike at any weakness. Her heart had already been shattered once before, and she couldn’t afford to let that happen again.
“I don’t need your love, Bakugo,” she said, her voice deadpan, though her insides screamed. “I can’t let myself love anyone again. Not with who I am. Not with what’s coming for me.”
The finality in her voice sent a chill through the room. The students watched in stunned silence as Y/N turned her back on Bakugo, walked away from him, and went to join her friends.
Tomo’s heart sank as she watched the whole scene unfold. She had seen this coming, but it didn’t make it any easier. She had told Y/N to give Bakugo a chance, to open up to him. But she also knew Y/N’s fears, her past, and how deeply scarred she was from losing someone close to her.
“Y/N,” Tomo whispered to herself, her voice barely audible. “What are you doing?”
Bakugo stood there, frozen, his fists clenched at his sides. His body was shaking with frustration, but more than that, with the feeling of being utterly helpless. “Y/N,” he murmured under his breath, his voice barely a whisper.
His heart ached for her. But it was clear now. The girl he had fallen in love with wasn’t the same girl who had been by his side. She was carrying so much pain, so many secrets. And in her eyes, there was no room for him—no place where he fit in.
As Y/N walked away with her friends, her heart a battlefield, she could feel the weight of her own words crashing down on her. Every step she took felt like it was pushing her further away from everything she wanted—everything she needed. But she had no choice. She couldn’t let Bakugo get too close. She couldn’t let him share her burden.
She knew that if she did, she would lose him. And the thought of losing someone else—the way she lost Miko, the way she had lost her family—was something she couldn’t bear.
And so, Y/N buried her feelings deep inside her, making a silent vow to never let herself be vulnerable again.
As they reached the exit of the cafeteria, Y/N paused for a moment. Her gaze fell on Nezu, the principal, who was watching her intently. Her expression softened slightly, a brief flicker of regret in her eyes.
“I’m sorry, Nezu,” she said quietly. “I didn’t keep my identity hidden like I should’ve. I’ll take care of everything here at U.A. I’ll make sure the damage is paid for. No one will harm anyone else.”
With that, Y/N turned and walked away with her friends, her head held high, her heart locked away once again.
Bakugo stood in the middle of the cafeteria, the weight of her rejection pressing down on him. His chest tightened, and his fists clenched so hard his knuckles turned white. He had no idea how to fight this. He had no idea how to reach her. But one thing was clear: he wasn’t going to give up.
“I’ll make her see,” he muttered, determination burning in his eyes. “I’m not giving up on her.”
Tomo, standing behind him, shook her head slightly. She knew Bakugo wouldn’t give up. He never did. But she also knew Y/N, and the walls she had built around her heart were stronger than anyone could imagine.
All they could do now was watch as the Mafia Queen tried to face her past alone, while the people who loved her struggled to break through the barriers she had so carefully constructed.
But for Y/N, there was no turning back. Not yet. She couldn’t afford to let anyone in.
