*Grace's POV*
I had gone out for a run since I couldn't go to the university today, due to a headache. I felt alive as the air blew over my face, but deep down I could sense the impending doom that was to befall as if Kehlani didn't remember everything. I was lost in thoughts as I took my morning run. All of a sudden I felt someone running beside me, I thought it was one of the joggers I normally met during my runs, I wanted to be alone so I slowed down my pace, waiting for her to skip by, but no, she kept the same level with me, I couldn't clearly see her face due to the cap she was wearing so I decided to just speed up but then this same girl also sped up, she didn't move forward nor did she move back, she kept her pace as equal to mine. I started to get irritated so I stopped.
"I'm not gay ok" I said, making her snap her attention towards me until I finally saw who it was.
"Kehlani" I whispered slightly.
"It seems you already know me miss McKenzie and fyi I don't do girls." Kehlani replied with a small laugh.
I immediately pounced on her after she was done with her remark. Kehlani was like my best friend in the past, until she became my sister in law, she was like the best person I've ever met. I felt her hands wrap around me cautiously before she finally gave in and hugged me tightly.
"Umm.... miss McKenzie I think you're hugging me a little to tight" she forced out through slight panting.
"Oh...sorry and please call me grace." I replied.
"Okay grace" she said with a small smile.
"There's a bench nearby can we sit and talk for a moment....well I have a few questions" Kehlani said, looking conflicted.
"Sure" I simply replied and followed her to the bench in utter silence.
"So what are you doing here Kehlani?" I asked.
"Can a girl not take a run?" She replied.
"Kehlani your house is 2 hours away from this area, and I'm very sure there's plenty of space around that you can take a run so don't beat around the bush." I replied firmly.
"Smart ass" she replied under her breath.
"I don't study law for no good reason." I said.
Kehlani took in a deep breath before speaking.
"I know this might sound stupid but.... what's your brother's name?" She asked.
"Uhh.... aren't you supposed to know, you work for him right" I was starting to get confused, did she remember anything.
"Well yes.....but in one of our conversations he told me to call him Xavier." Kehlani replied, looking kinda conflicted.
Oh so that's why she's here, God I wish she could remember something.
"Well I think you have to ask my brother that question" I replied slowly.
"Oh f*ck it!" Kehlani voiced out of frustration then started blabbing about how china read a book, and how our names were in it and how crazy it is that's she's acting like his but she's going mad over it. I stared at her blankly before I replied.
"I'll ask my brother to give you a day off, I think the work stress is getting to you". She just stared at me, horrified at what I just said. I simply patted her lap, said a quick goodbye and took a run back home. I was going to give Xavier an earful if he was connected to this in any way.*45 minutes later*
I got to the house and marched straight for Xavier's study. I opened the door without knocking only for it to reveal Xavier with a cigar in this mouth, wearing a TANK TOP and black sweats, you could literally see his muscles bulging out of his arms. He looked up at me and then continued staring at his phone.
I slammed the door shut as I approached him.
"Do you know who I met today?" I said as I panted slightly.
"Your science teacher." He replied lazily.
"For f*ck sake Xavier, I study law and I met Kehlani".
His fingers stopped right in front of his phone for a few seconds before he continued typing.
"What happened he asked with nonchalance.
Anyone who didn't know Xavier personally would think he didn't really care about the topic at hand but Xavier was just really bad at expressing his emotions like very very bad. How did Kehlani melt this cold as*hole.
"She asked about the book" I finally replied.
"What book?"
Xavier didn't know about the Wattpad story Kehlani and I wrote in the past. It was supposed to be a surprise gift to Xavier when they were going to celebrate his birthday party, but well the birthday party ended in a horrifying accident that scarred Xavier for life.
Well it's just that he didn't have anymore life after that incident.
"What am I even saying " I rubbed my thumb against my forehead, acting confused.
"I meant....she asked whether your name was Kai or Xavier."
He had an amused expression on his face after what I said.
"And what did you tell her?" He finally asked.
"Well I ignored the question, told her that I'll ask for a day off for her and f*cking bolted for home" I replied, feeling sorry and stupid at the same time.
"That's good, I'll deal with this myself" Xavier said calmly as a small smile played on his lips.
The only sign of happiness I'd ever seen him display after so so long. I inched closer to Xavier as I spoke.
"Did you two have sex?" I inquired with a raised eyebrow.
"If you don't get out of my study right now I'll f*cking hit you" Xavier said as his skin flushed between pink and red.
"Gosh is thee Xavier McKenzie blushing " I said with a laugh as I pinched his cheeks.
Boy I wasn't taking his threat seriously, I mean I'm his little sister, he wouldn't even dream of laying a hand on me.
"I love you big brother" I said as a pulled his cheek.
"I love you too lil sis" Xavier replied with so much sincerity that I thought I was going to f*cking tear up. Instead I gave him a big bear hug, something we hadn't shared in a long long time.
