I have a friend named depression
A not so good friend is she
When I'm smiling, she's down
She festers inside and longs for the chance to be free
I'll wallow in sorrow
As she jumps in pure glee
I'll cry in her pain as she smiles at the game
That she's allowed to play in my mind
I look for new friends but they can't understand
the twisted relationship between she and I
As I stick to her, she clings to me
And with that, we're one in the same
She eats at my pain yet I still call out her name
Because nothing seems to be real
I have a friend named depression
A friend I long to be free
I begged for help, with such subtle signs
So as for depression not to see
I guess no one noticed
The pain flaming inside
It was too late for them, I had such short time
Because that flame quickly had died
I had a friend named depression
Until my new friend death came for me
As tears ran down his face, he set to erase
And from that, he set me free
I had a friend named depression
Til death forced she to release me
