"The theme performance is... an agility course!" Pierre's booming voice echoed through the stadium, his excitement palpable. "Three performers will face off against each other, and the first one to reach the end will advance to the freestyle performance!"
The crowd cheered as the podium began to shift, transforming seamlessly into a vibrant, challenging obstacle course. The layout was revealed: a series of platforms requiring precise jumps, a narrow balance beam demanding elegance, and a final daunting gap that could only be crossed through teamwork between trainer and Pokémon.
"And remember," Pierre added with a flourish, "not only must they finish, but their movements must be executed with style and grace!"
As the audience buzzed with anticipation, Pierre gestured to the stage. "Now, with the rules clear, let's meet our first trio of performers!"
Three trainers strode onto the stage, each wearing sleek sportswear and sturdy sneakers, perfectly suited for the intense physicality of the course.
"Performers, take your positions!" Pierre commanded. The three competitors nodded, their faces set with determination as they lined up at the starting point.
From their seats, Ash, Clemont, Bonnie and the rest leaned forward, scanning the participants. "Look! Serena's in this group!" Bonnie exclaimed, pointing excitedly.
Ash's eyes locked onto Serena, standing tall with Pancham by her side. "You've got this, Serena!" Bonnie and Clemont cheered together.
Ash silently encouraged her, his fists clenched. You've trained hard for this. Don't give up.
Serena crouched slightly, taking a deep, calming breath. She turned to Pancham, her voice steady. "Alright, Pancham, let's show them what we've got."
"Pan-cham!" Pancham replied, flexing his tiny arms in determination.
Pierre raised his hand high. "Let the countdown begin! Three... two... one... GO!"
At the signal, the performers sprang into action, racing toward the first obstacle: a series of platforms. Serena leapt with precision from one platform to the next, her movements fluid and graceful. Pancham matched her pace, adding flair with backflips and spins, earning cheers from the audience.
The other two performers weren't far behind, but Serena reached the second obstacle first: the slim balance beam. She paused briefly to catch her breath, then stepped onto the beam with deliberate care.
Her movements were steady at first, her arms extended for balance. Halfway across, her foot slipped slightly, causing her to wobble precariously. The audience gasped. Serena gritted her teeth, focusing intensely as she regained her balance. However, the stumble allowed the other two trainers to overtake her.
"Stay focused," Serena muttered under her breath, her resolve strengthening as she quickened her pace.
At last, she reached the final challenge: the gap. The trainers ahead of her were already employing creative strategies to cross. One trainer instructed her Glaceon to use Ice Beam, forming a shimmering, sturdy bridge. The other, relying on Jumpluff, was whisked across by a swirling Leaf Storm.
Serena analysed the situation, her mind racing. She looked down at Pancham. "We're going to have to take a risk," she said firmly.
Pancham tilted his head, uncertain. "Pan-cham?"
"I need you to use Arm Thrust to launch me across," Serena explained.
Pancham's eyes widened in alarm. "Pan-cham! Pan!"
"I know it's risky," she admitted, crouching down to meet his gaze, "but I trust you, Pancham. We can do this."
Reluctantly, Pancham nodded, his fists glowing as he prepared the move. Serena took a few steps back, inhaling deeply. "Alright, Pancham... Now!"
