Mayor Thanyiel looked down at his son lying in the hospital bed. Brad was asleep for now, but it hurt to see him in so much pain. The mayor had been taking phone calls from the hospital staff, giving instructions, trying to keep things in order — but he didn't want to leave his son's side.

Still, he had to return. He had already spent as much time as he could, ensuring Brad was stable, while carefully watching the clock to make sure he wasn't overstepping the time he was allowed off. After all, he still had a town to run.

Letting out a deep breath, he leaned down and gently ran a hand through Brad's hair.

"What am I going to do with you, my son? I'm so worried about you..."

Just then, his phone buzzed. Thankfully, it wasn't another call demanding his attention — it was a message from the Player.

They'd been checking in regularly on Brad's condition. Thanyiel never blamed the Player for what happened. It was the sword — that cursed thing — that caused everything to spiral out of control.

Player:
"Hey there. I noticed you haven't been messaging me lately, and I wanted to check if everything's okay. I totally get it if you're still busy — I can text back later if you need me to."

Thanyiel exhaled slowly before replying.

Thanyiel:
"Although I am busy, Brad's been getting better. It pains me that I'll have to leave his side soon. Work is calling me, and as much as I don't want to go, it's my duty. I have to keep doing my job."

Meanwhile, the Player lay in bed, still sore from the recent fight with Hatred — and boy, did it hurt. A few deaths and being down 25 out of 30... it had taken a lot out of them. Their phone lit up with the mayor's reply.

Awh... who would want to leave their son in the hospital?

After a moment of thought, they offered:

Player:
"Hey, why don't I watch him for a little while? I know we don't have the best bond, but it's better than leaving him alone."

Three dots appeared on the screen as the mayor began to type.

Thanyiel:
"You would do that for me? I really wouldn't want to be a burden on you... are you sure?"

The Player smiled softly and replied:

Player:
"I don't mind at all. And if it gives you some peace of mind, then I'm more than willing to help out."

The reply came almost instantly.

Thanyiel:
"Thank you. You don't know how much it means to me to know someone will be watching over him. He can be a little extra sometimes... I hope you can manage."

Player:
"I'm sure I can."

With that final message sent, the Player flipped their phone over and took a deep breath. They got up and began making their way over to the hospital.
