ASTORIA SAT DOWN on the roof with Maddie. It had been two months since she left. It was now January, and the night of Ray's birthday.
She wondered if they had escaped yet, and if they were alive and somewhere safe.
Over the past two months, Astoria had become close to the others, almost as if they had never been apart. It made her happy, she felt like she had made her own family.
Maddie lay back and looked up at the sunset. Although she knew that it was artificial, it was all she'd ever known and it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen.
"It's so beautiful." Maddie said, referring to the sunset.
Astoria smiled at her best friend, "It really is." She replied. "Just wait until we get to the real world, though. It's even more beautiful."
Maddie's face lit up, "Really?" She asked, sitting up.
Astoria nodded in response, "Yeah. There's so much out there, I can't wait to show you."
"Awh, you're such a softie."
"In your dreams."
Maddie laughed, "Come onnn, lighten up a bit. We should go for a little wonder. No demons are around."
Astoria shook her head, "No. What if they're out in secret?"
"Stori, they wouldn't be. We would know. Now, come on. I'm trying to distract you from whatever's going on in that pretty head of yours." Maddie replied, grabbing her hand.
Astoria rolled her eyes with an amused smile, following her off of the roof and down to the ground. "You're crazy."
"I might be a little bit crazy, but we only live once." Maddie said, smirking.
