A sphere of fire shot past her head and into the mass of green, exploding on impact with a hobgoblin. Several goblins caught on fire and chaos erupted within their ranks. Zatiel let out a warcry and rushed in with shield raised, as another fire sphere zipped past her into the fray.

The smaller goblins froze before her, as she stepped in and thrust her spear rapidly into the horde. She held her ground, thrust after thrust struck true and wild swings of her shield crunched the bones of those who dared venture close. The kitten was lost in a bloodlust haze, as the goblins flooded past and surrounded her.

“Zatiel!”

Vanessa’s voice was faint beneath the screams of battle. Zatiel cast short-range teleport and appeared atop the wall, before she looked back. Claire cast another fire sphere from behind Van, who had drawn her blades to fight a few goblins that reached them. The kitten yelled her command.

“Claire, use fire wall in front of the gate!”

Moments later, a wall of fire appeared and the goblins stopped their advance. Zatiel scanned the battlefield and noticed many goblins dead or dying, before she saw a giant goblin charge through one of the ruin’s walls towards her. It swung a club bigger than her whole body at her, as she cast void in reaction.

The massive club was torn asunder, the end of which rushed past the kitten’s head through the air. Zatiel turned on her heels and cast teleport, appearing beside Claire. Behind her, the giant goblin charged through the gateway and fire wall. Claire screamed in horror.

“Is that a G-g-goblin K-k-king?!”

The kitten spun around and yelled, “Van, take care of the small ones! Claire, back me up!”

Zatiel teleported behind the king and spun around again, casting void as she punched the giant goblin’s leg. Blood erupted around her, as the giant began to fall backwards. The kitten screamed and spun out of the way in a blur of motion. The giant crashed down beside her, as she leapt onto its chest and stabbed it in the neck with her spear.

With a gargled roar, the giant reached up to bat her off him. Zatiel felt her world spin, as pain coursed through her small body and her feet left the ground. The kitten went flying like a doll carelessly thrown by a spoiled child and tumbled head over heels across the grass several feet away.

She coughed up blood and came to all fours, noticing her body shining with white light. Gritting her teeth, she felt her bones being set by the magic of Claire’s healing spell and suppressed a scream. A few painful moments later, Zatiel slowly stood and wiped her mouth, as she turned and walked back towards the thrashing behemoth. Taking care to avoid the chaotic movements of the giant’s arms, the kitten quietly approached the goblin king’s head from behind and cast void to remove it from existence.

Zatiel felt weak and plopped down where she stood, before she laid back in the blood soaked grass and looked up at the sky. Healing might have cured her injuries, but exhaustion had set in and she found it difficult to move. She closed her eyes and tried to catch her breath, but noticed a shadow come over her and opened her eyes to see her friends standing over her.

“Are you okay,” asked Van.

“Ask me again in half an hour.”

Claire giggled and added, “You scared off the rest of them.”

Vanessa crossed her arms and said, “Yeah, they ran off into the woods.”

“I’m tired. Can you two collect the stones and equipment?”

“Sure, boss,” replied Vanessa.

“I promise I’ll help after I take a nap.”

Zatiel closed her eyes again and passed out. When her eyes opened once more, she noticed a large pile of weapons a few feet away from her. Her muscles were still sore as she sat up, noticing her sword and two spears laid out beside her.
