The gate on the far side of the courtyard was closed, and the girls who waited there spotted her first. When she noticed them, they seemed to be confused and even took a few steps back as she approached them. Claire spoke first.

“Who are you?”

“Oh right, I evolved. I'm still Zatiel, though.”

Vanessa blinked and visibly relaxed a little, as she inspected her and spoke carefully, “This is a little confusing, Zatiel. Is there a better explanation than how you evolved?”

“Okay, I'm still a little rough around the edges about how it all happened, but I repaired a teleportation circle that's part of some ancient world magic and unlocked a unique subclass or something. Then it forced me to evolve and grow up real fast. I found this empty town with all sorts of stuff and I guess it's all mine now.”

The two girls stood silent for a moment, then Claire asked directly, “You found a town?”

Vanessa snapped out of shock to ask, “You got a class upgrade for free? What class?”

Zatiel blinked and slowly answered, “Yeah, the spirit said the town and everything in it is mine now. I touched this blue orb and it gave me the option to upgrade my class into a novice magic knight. When I accepted, my class evolved into a novice grand warrior sage of darkness. There was no one there to charge me for it, does one normally pay for a class upgrade?”

“Unless you're in the army, yes. The Adventurer's Guild charges you and requires a certain rank too. Class upgrade magic can grant you more specialized skills to develop your talents, but requires a certain level of experience too. The classes available are limited by what skill levels you've obtained.”

“How do you know so much, Van?”

The elf blushed and answered, “We used to hang out around the guild a lot and you hear things. Our parents were adventurers before they died, too.”

There was a moment of awkward silence between them, before Claire spoke up, “Kind of seems like you're leaving us in the dust.”

Zatiel shook her head and replied carefully, “No, you two still owe me and we're a party now. So I brought you two some gear from the armory, and we can go there to study in the library later. Since the teleportation magic is working now, we can use it to go back to Venice.”

Zatiel stored the tent in her dimension box and retrieved the equipment she pilfered for them from the armory, including new enchanted undergarments; of which, she took many sets. The human donned the cloth armor, a dagger, and the staff; while the elf equipped the heavy armor with a dagger, the two short swords, and the bow. The cat beastkin waited patiently and stowed their old equipment and clothing in her dimension box, before leading them to the short tower she came from.

Zatiel checked the map and motioned for them to stand on the magic circle, before she instructed them, “Say, Venice Guild Hall.”

“Venice guild hall,” repeated her companions.

The circle activated beneath them and light enveloped them, again the rush passed through her and they were standing in a dark room. Light shone from beneath the door, and she could hear voices on the other side. She did not hesitate to walk upto the door and push it open; the guild hall went quiet, as the three walked to the counter. Zatiel spoke with a dazed and confused receptionist.

“We cleared out the ruins in the southern forest and I fixed the teleportation circles. I think there was a goblin king…”

“Not sure I've ever seen you three before,” the receptionist looked past her at her companions and glanced between them all, before she continued, “actually, I can say for certain I recognize two of your party from the stray cats.”
