The soft tapping of rain against the skylight woke her before she was ready. The other half of the bed was empty. The sheets were cool to the touch which meant that some time had passed already since he had woken up.
It was another nightmare that had awakened her. They came often still, but instead of waking up to fear the glow of red eyes, she had been in the routine of waking to a soft ache in her heart. After a few minutes of reminding herself that it was only stale memories.
There wasn't much space in the small London flat, but there wasn't much that had been needed since most of the time it had been empty. Only the bare minimum had been acquired in the few months of renting out the space and most of the items were picked up as needed.
A small dining table with chairs had been left by prior tenants and happily accepted by the couple when they moved in. There was a large mirror by the closet that Antheia had struggled to carry home while walking back one night, although it wasn't hung up yet and remained leaning against the floor to be dealt with another day. The city was great for finding pieces by chance and most of their furniture pieces would be collected in a similar way. There was no couch to sit on however, luck hadn't put an acceptable one out on the street for them yet.
The only item that had been purchased for the flat was the bed. It was Antheia's favorite part of their home.
She stretched out in the bed long into the afternoon hours by herself listening to the rain dance around the window panels. Days off were rare enough and time for sleeping was even more limited. Even after she woke, she stayed in the warmth of the covers and checked the clock. It was nearing midday already, but for her it was morning.
Antheia couldn't remember what day it had been with her work schedule. It was the worst part about being an Auror in her opinion: she never knew when she was done working. The trip to Hogwarts had taken place over days to collect all the information that they needed. However when they had left on the first day, Marvolo Gaunt told them that it should only take a few hours before deciding it would require more time. Being on the clock endlessly had left her exhausted.
If the sheets were cool on the other side of the bed and the flat was so quiet, it meant that it was likely Tuesday. That was the conclusion that Antheia correctly came to before she heard the unlocking clicks from the front door that confirmed her answer.
She still hadn't been ready to get out of the comfort of her bed. Her fists balled into the blankets and she closed her eyes as if she was trying to conceive herself that she had never been awake.
There were quiet footsteps around the flat, a few thumps of things being dropped off on the dining table as she painted his path of habits in her head, and then they grew quiet. Antheia's curiosity grew at the silence. She peered open an eye to catch sight of him before he plopped down with a heavy thud onto the bed next to her.
"Good morning, my darling," Sebastian greeted, kissing the top of her forehead. He stayed on top of the blankets next to her with his jacket still on, but he had taken his shoes off which explained the sudden silence she hadn't been able to follow. "Did you get enough sleep?"
