Avalyn's heart raced in her chest like a wild beast as she navigated the dimly lit corridors back to the infirmary, the fragile scroll hidden securely in her grasp. The cool parchment pressed against her palm, a tangible reminder of the secrets it held. Tristen's voice replayed in her mind, each word reverberating with an unsettling blend of hope and dread that twisted her stomach into knots. She could almost feel the weight of her resolve as she steeled herself to confront Henry, knowing that the revelation of the truth would come at a cost—a truth that could shatter the very foundations of her world.

As she stepped into the infirmary, the faint scent of antiseptic hung in the air, mingling with the soft rustle of linens. Henry was propped up in bed, a patchwork of bandages covering his wounds, which starkly contrasted with his pale skin. His dark hair fell across his forehead, damp with perspiration, and his normally vibrant eyes were dulled by fatigue. When he noticed her approach, a flicker of surprise crossed his face, momentarily igniting the weariness that shadowed him.

Avalyn held up the scroll, her eyes blazing with determination. "I found this in the library. It's a message from Tristen. He was trying to warn me about a traitor in the kingdom. Someone who has been conspiring against us. Henry, I need to know the truth. Were you involved in this plot?"

Henry's eyes widened in shock. "Avalyn, I swear to you, I had no part in any conspiracy. I was manipulated. I only acted out of desperation and fear."

Avalyn's heart raced as she searched his eyes for any sign of deception. But all she saw was a deep, anguished sincerity. "Then tell me everything. What happened?"

Henry took a deep breath, his voice trembling. "It was your advisor, Lord Cedric. He has been working in the shadows, manipulating events to seize power for himself. He used me as a pawn, feeding me lies and stirring my anger. When I discovered the truth, I was already locked away, powerless to stop him."

Avalyn's eyes widened in horror. "Lord Cedric? But he's been by my side, advising me for years."

Henry nodded solemnly. "That's precisely why he's so dangerous. He knows your every move, your every weakness. He convinced me that killing Tristen would protect you, but it was all part of his plan to destabilize the kingdom."

Tears welled up in Avalyn's eyes as the realization sank in. "I should have seen it. I should have known."

Henry reached out, his hand trembling. "Avalyn, I am truly sorry for what I did. I was weak and foolish, but I want to make amends.

Avalyn's eyes flickered like furious flames as she faced Henry, her heart a tumultuous storm of anger and steely resolve. The heavy weight of the revelations loomed over her, casting a harsh light on the shadows of their past. Yet, despite the newfound understanding, the gravity of Henry's actions remained an unyielding anchor, tethering her fury to a deeper sense of betrayal.

"Henry," she began, her voice trembling with barely contained rage, "what you did to my brother is unforgivable. Tristen is dead because of you. No amount of explanations or revelations can change that."

Henry lowered his gaze, his expression filled with remorse. "Avalyn, I know I can't undo the past. I was manipulated, but I still made those choices. I am truly sorry."

Avalyn's anger surged, her eyes narrowing as she stepped closer. "Sorry? Sorry will not bring my brother back. Sorry will not erase the pain you have caused me and our people. You were the king, and you used your power to take an innocent life."

Henry's voice trembled. "I deserve your anger, Avalyn. I know I do. But please, let me help you expose Cedric. Let me make some small amends for what I've done."

Avalyn's jaw clenched, her anger simmering just beneath the surface. "You will help, Henry. But do not forget, you are still banished from this kingdom. You are no longer a king. Your title, your power, they mean nothing now. You are nothing but a tool to be used in bringing the real traitor to justice."

Henry nodded, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I understand. I will do whatever it takes to help you, Avalyn."

Avalyn's voice was cold and resolute. "Good. We will uncover Cedric's plot and bring him to justice. But once this is over, you will leave Lysandre and never return. Do you understand?"
