Princess Avalyn stood in the courtyard, her heart heavy with guilt and fear. She had made a grave mistake, one that threatened not only her own life but the stability of the kingdom. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a fiery glow over the ancient stones of the castle, she knew there was no escaping the consequences of her actions.

Avalyn shivered in the cool evening air, her white gown billowing around her like a ghostly veil. The sounds of the kingdom outside the castle walls seemed distant and distorted as if the world itself had fallen silent in anticipation of what was to come.

And then, she heard it - the heavy tread of the king's boots on the cobblestones, his cruel laughter echoing through the courtyard like a wicked symphony. As he emerged from the shadows, his face twisted with malice, Avalyn felt a fresh wave of terror wash over her.

"Well, well, well, Princess Avalyn," King Henry sneered, his eyes glittering with a dangerous light. "It seems you have found yourself in quite the predicament, haven't you?"

Avalyn lowered her gaze, unable to meet the king's piercing stare. "I...I beg your forgiveness, Your Majesty," she whispered, her voice barely audible above the hum of the night insects. "I never meant to cause any harm. It was a foolish mistake."

The king's laughter was like shards of glass scraping against her skin. "You have betrayed me, betrayed your kingdom, and now you must face the consequences."

With a swift motion, King Henry signalled to his guards, who produced a cruel-looking whip from the shadows. Avalyn's heart raced in her chest, terror and despair mingling in her veins as she braced herself for the pain to come.

But to her surprise, the king shook his head, a wicked smile playing on his lips. "No, my dear Avalyn. I have a different punishment in mind for you. One that will teach you the true cost of betrayal. And then, and only then, will I decide your fate."

Avalyn's heart sank like a stone in her chest. The night stretched on endlessly, the hours crawling by like wounded animals. Every sound, every whisper of the wind, made her jump in terror, her mind tortured by visions of what awaited her at the king's hand.

As the first light of dawn painted the sky in shades of pink and gold, Avalyn's hope faltered. She had not slept, had not rested, her body weary and her spirit broken. And then, she heard it - the sound of footsteps approaching, slow and deliberate.

King Henry emerged from the shadows, his face unreadable as he stood before her. Avalyn mustered all her courage, meeting his gaze with a defiant tilt of her chin.

"Well, Your Majesty," she said, her voice strong despite her fear. "What will you do with me now?"

The king's smile was enigmatic, a strange mixture of amusement and something darker lurking beneath the surface. "I have decided, Princess Avalyn," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "You will remain in the courtyard, bound to that pole, for one more night."

Avalyn's heart lurched in her chest, a sudden surge of defiance rising within her. "And then what, Your Majesty?" she demanded, her voice ringing with challenge. "What will you do to me then?"

King Henry's gaze softened, just a fraction, before hardening once more. "You will be banished from the kingdom, Princess Avalyn," he said, his voice heavy with finality. "Never to return, under penalty of death."

Avalyn gasped, her heart breaking in her chest. Banished, cast out, from the only home she had ever known. And yet, as she watched the king turn and walk away, a strange sense of freedom blossomed within her.

For she knew, deep in her heart, that the kingdom she loved had never truly belonged to her. And now, as she stood bound to the pole, her gaze fixed on the horizon where the sun was rising, she knew that she was finally free.

Free to forge her own path, to make her own destiny, far beyond the walls of the castle and the cruel whims of a king who had once held her heart in his hands.

And with that knowledge, Princess Avalyn lifted her head high, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears but her spirit burning bright. For though she may have faced betrayal, she had also found redemption, in the dawn of a new beginning.

In the dimly lit castle courtyard, Princess Avalyn stood with her head held high, her heart heavy with regret for the grave mistake she had made. The once vibrant flowers in the courtyard seemed to droop in sorrow, mirroring Avalyn's own feelings of despair and impending doom.

As night approached, a chilling silence enveloped the courtyard, broken only by the sound of Avalyn's soft footsteps echoing against the stone walls. Suddenly, the heavy wooden doors creaked open, and King Henry, his imposing figure casting a long shadow, strode towards her with a cruel gleam in his eye.

"You have disgraced this kingdom, Avalyn," he spat out, his words like icy daggers piercing her already wounded heart. "For your betrayal, you shall face a punishment far worse than death."

A pang of fear shot through Avalyn as she awaited the king's judgment. To her surprise, King Henry's lips curled into a twisted smile as he revealed his proposition.

"However," he said with a wicked grin, "if you wish to stay in this castle without facing banishment, you shall marry me, Princess Avalyn."

The shock of his words reverberated through her, but as she looked into his eyes filled with malicious intent, she knew that this was no offer of salvation but a sinister trap laid before her.

As she weighed her options, fury and defiance surged within her. Realizing that her destiny was not to be dictated by the king's whims, Avalyn made a bold decision. With a steady voice, she declared, "I will not be bound by your tyranny, King Henry. I choose freedom over tyranny."
