Jennie POV
As soon as the car came to a stop in front of the mansion, Lisa stepped out quickly. I barely had time to register it before she was at my side, opening my door with her ever-so-polite demeanor.
"Chivalry is never dead, after all," I mocked, my voice slurring just slightly. The alcohol still coursed through me, loosening my tongue and sharpening my sarcasm.
Lisa smirked but didn't reply, simply holding out her hand to help me out. I rolled my eyes, determined to show I didn't need her assistance, and tried to stand on my own. Big mistake. My knees buckled, and before I could tumble embarrassingly to the ground, Lisa's arm was around my waist, steadying me.
Her touch was firm yet gentle, her hand splayed against my side as if she'd done this a thousand times. The heat of her palm seemed to burn through the fabric of my dress, sending a jolt of something unfamiliar straight to my core. My breath hitched, and I immediately scolded myself internally.
It's the alcohol, I thought again. That's all this is. Nothing more.
But when I glanced up, Lisa's face was right there—so close I could see every detail. The sharp curve of her jaw, the way her lips parted slightly, and her eyes... those eyes, dark and unreadable, locked on mine.
And before I could stop myself—or even process the reckless thought swirling in my mind—I kissed her.
It started as a quick press of my lips against hers, a rush of boldness fueled by the alcohol. But when Lisa froze, unmoving, the frustration bubbled up in me.
"Really?" I muttered under my breath, my voice low and almost challenging.
Grabbing the lapel of her blazer with more force than necessary, I pulled her closer, tilting my head and kissing her again—this time deeper, harder. I poured every ounce of whatever it was I was feeling into it. Confusion, attraction, anger—none of it mattered in that moment.
Her lips were soft yet firm, and when I finally felt her respond—her mouth moving against mine with a surprising hunger—it sent a shiver down my spine.
Lisa's hands tightened around my waist, pulling me closer as the kiss deepened. Her tongue brushed against mine, and it was as though the world around us disappeared. All the carefully constructed walls I'd built to keep her out, the endless denials I told myself about her—it all crumbled.
The kiss was raw, unrestrained, and dizzying. I wasn't sure if it was the alcohol clouding my thoughts or something far more dangerous, but I couldn't stop. I didn't want to.
When we finally broke apart, gasping for air, Lisa's forehead rested against mine. Her lips were red and swollen, her eyes slightly wide as if she couldn't believe what had just happened.
"Jennie..." she started, her voice low and rough.
But I didn't let her finish. "Don't read into it," I muttered, stepping back slightly, though my body screamed at the loss of her warmth. "It's just the alcohol."
Lisa said nothing, but the way her eyes bore into mine told me she didn't believe a word of it. And truthfully, neither did I.
