Emily pulled back, her eyes searching Avery's. "Promise me you'll be cautious around Sebastian."
Avery nodded. "I will. But Emily, I need to understand why he's back."
Emily's expression turned skeptical. "You don't think it's just about the charity gala?"
Avery shook her head. "No. There's more. And I aim to find out."
Just then, Avery's phone buzzed. Sebastian's name flashed on the screen.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "Speak of the devil."
Avery hesitated before answering.
"Sebastian, what is it?" Avery asked curtly.
"Meet me for dinner tonight. We need to discuss the gala details," Sebastian said, his voice smooth.
Avery glanced at Emily, who shook her head vigorously.
"Avery, don't," Emily mouthed.
"I'll think about it, Sebastian," Avery replied noncommittally.
Sebastian chuckled. "I'll pick you up at 7."
Avery's eyes widened as Sebastian hung up.
Emily frowned. "You're not seriously considering it?"
Avery sighed. "I need answers, Emily. And maybe dinner will give me that."
Emily's expression turned worried. "Be careful, Avery. You're playing with fire."
