Avery stared blankly at her computer screen, her mind a jumble of thoughts. Work seemed impossible.
Emily knocked softly on the doorframe. "Hey, Avery. Got a minute?"
Avery nodded, and Emily entered, closing the door behind her.
"What's on your schedule today?" Emily asked, pulling out her planner.
Avery shrugged. "Can't focus."
Emily's eyes locked onto Avery's. "What's bothering you?"
Avery sighed, leaning back. "Liam confessed his feelings to me."
Emily's eyes widened. "What? I had no idea he felt that way."
Avery rubbed her temples. "I know. I'm torn."
Emily's expression turned curious. "How do you feel about him?"
Avery hesitated. "I care for him, but...there's Sebastian."
Emily's brow furrowed. "Sebastian? Avery, what's going on?"
Avery's voice dropped to a whisper. "We had a moment, Emily. At the charity gala meeting."
Emily's eyes nearly popped out. "Avery, no! After everything he did to you?"
Avery's shoulders sagged. "I know. I'm stupid. But there's still something between us."
Emily's face softened. "Avery, you deserve better. Sebastian hurt you once; don't let him do it again."
Avery nodded, tears welling up.
Emily pulled Avery into a hug. "We'll get through this together."
As they hugged, Avery felt a weight lift.
