//Anthony//

My eyes widened in shock as I saw my best friend hold a sword in her hand, no hesitance in her stance against the huge black dog in front of us.

Annabeth dodged its attack, sidestepping and slashing across the side. As the beast opened its maw, she sliced at it with her dagger and the dog evaporated into golden dust.

Annabeth pulled me aside. 'You saw that, didn't you?' she asked, her voice hushed.

'Yeah, I did,' I replied, still a bit bewildered.

'That wasn't just a dog,' she explained. 'It was a creature from the Underworld, a hellhound.'

My eyes widened in disbelief. 'A hellhound? Like, from Greek mythology? But... the gods aren't real? I mean, we have explanations for storms and earthquakes and all now, don't we?'

'That's where you're wrong Anthony. They're all real. They still roam the earth. Immortal means immortal. It means never dying.' She scanned my face and frowned. 'I get it, you don't believe me. Don't worry, I felt the same too. Meet me after school. Under our tree.'

She didn't wait for my reply before walking away, mumbling something along the lines 'can't happen... not possible.' I shrugged it off and went to my next class.

I found Annabeth sitting under the shady oak tree, reading a new book.

'Hey. What's the book about?'

'Hm? Oh, it's about Roman architecture. Can you read the title?'

I blinked in confusion. 'Am I supposed to suddenly be able to read Greek?'

'Well that confirms it,' she said under her breath.

I sat down next to her as she closed her book, excited for some answers about the hellhound and the gods.

'So as I said, the Greek Gods are real and live in America. They still have offspring with mortals, called demigods,' she began. But I interrupted her before she could continue.

'You're a demigod, aren't you? But what about me? I know both of my parents.'

'Yes Anthony, I'm a demigod. However, there are some clear-sighted people, who can see through the mist. I think you're one of them.'

'So I'll be fighting monsters like that one too?'

She shook her head. 'We'll still train you to fight monsters, but you shouldn't be actively hunted by them. Oh, also, we need to tell your mom.'

'Come on then, let's go, don't want to be late, do we?'

' -Ma'am, there is a place, camp half-blood, where we take-'

Annabeth had been explaining about the gods to my mother for the past few minutes until she was interrupted.

'Oh I can't take this anymore. I know about Camp Half-Blood, I know about the gods. I'm a daughter of Hermes, you know. It was fun seeing you explain everything I already knew. Don't look at me like that, you were shocked by my lack of reaction,' my mom said.

'Mom, you knew about all this? You knew this whole time and never told me?' I was shocked.

'I'm sorry Anthony, but I had to. Knowing about the gods could put you in danger, especially since you're a legacy.'

I just realised,' Annabeth said. 'You'd be like, the first legacy at camp since... since world war two, I think.'

'Probably,' my mom agreed, 'pack your bag kiddo, we're going to camp for the weekend. Annabeth, would you like to come with us?'

She shrugged. 'Sure. I don't actually have a car, I was going to call my boyfriend.'

'But what about dad? Wouldn't he wonder where we are?' I asked.

'Your dad? Oh, he called me a while ago, he's spending the weekend with a friend, some sudden plan.'

'Alright I guess? I'll just go and pack.'

As I left, I could hear mom asking about someone at camp. Charon or someone like that?

Camp was an awesome place. It had a climbing wall, but with lava pouring down. It wasn't too full, but Annabeth told me more people came during the summer.

Speaking of Annabeth, I found out she saved the world. Twice!

The weekend wasn't too bad, and I got a few more friends at camp. Only sad thing is that none of them have phones. I can't imagine not having a phone, but demigods couldn't have them. Something about attracting monsters?

My mom seemed really happy to come back. She said she'd last been to camp some twenty years ago.

'You shouldn't have the need to use any weapon, but it's always good to have some basic combat training,' she said.

Though, I wasn't getting proficient in any weapon anytime soon. My mom said she'd think about letting me come to camp over the summer, so that was something.

My new knowledge about the Greek world really raised my respect for Annabeth though.

You've got my birthday to thank for this. Consider it my gift to you all. [Special mention to the first person to guess my age correctly.]
