Chapter Twenty Five

David leans forward, his eyes locked on Nicole's. "Nicole, I know things have been difficult since... since the accident. But we've both been through so much to get to this point. I can't lose you again."

Nicole averts her gaze, tears welling up. "I'm sorry, David. I want to believe we can pick up where we left off. But you don't remember me. You don't remember us."

David moves his chair closer to Nicole, grasping her hand. My mind may have lost the memories, but my heart remembers. It never stopped loving you, Nicole. Even when I couldn't recall your face, I felt your absence every day.

Nicole pulls her hand back. "It's so hard for me to believe that. You got involved with Torrance. How can I know you're not just settling for me out of guilt or obligation?"

David hangs his head. "Torrance helped me through a difficult time. I thought I could build something with her. But I was wrong. Being with her only made me realize how much more I felt for you. I always feel empty and lonely."

"I've waited a year for you to come to me, David. To want me back. And now I'm supposed just to forget everything and start over? Move in with you like nothing happened?" Nicole's controlling her tears.

David holds Nicole's hand tightly. "Please, Nic. Give me a chance to prove my love for you. I know I can never make up for the lost time but I can spend the rest of my life showing you how much you mean to me."

Nicole looks down at him, her heart breaking. "I'm scared, David. I'm scared, David. I have lost you once and I don't think I will be able to take it if the same things happen in the future."

David brings Nicole's hand on his left chest. "My heart always beats for you. It's always you, Nicole Arelaine. You could never lose me. Even if my mind forgot, my soul belongs to you. It always has, and it always will."

They gaze at each other, a lifetime of longing passing between them. Slowly,

Nicole lifts her hand and presses it against David's cheek. "I will need time to think about it, David."

"We will make and create new memories together." David hugs Nicole.

After a heart to heart talk, David gave his word to Nicole that he will be talking to Torrance and ending things with her.

Before David went to Torrance's house, he asked for some advise and guidance from his mother. Elizabeth tells her son to follow his heart and also be careful with Torrance since she was her friend before she became her lover.

Torrance and David walk out to the garden of her house.

David takes a deep breath. "Torrance, I’ve been thinking… about everything."

Torrance nods. "Okay. You know you can tell me anything, right?"

David glances at her. "Yeah. I know you’ve been there for me through it all, after the accident and everything… I really appreciate it."

Torrance smiles softly. "You don’t have to thank me. I care about you. You’re my friend."

David sighs. "That’s what makes this so hard. You’ve been incredible, and I want you to know how much that means to me. But… there’s something else I need to talk to you about."

Torrance senses the gravity of the moment. "What is it?"

David looks at the surroundings. " It’s about Nicole. The truth is…I still don’t remember much about her."
