How to pray.

While praying, people usually form a hand gesture that is usually this 🙏, if you do this while praying to HaShem, right now I have something even better than this 🙏.

Put your left hand on your heart, right hand over your left hand, and ta duh! You have yourself a new gesture that Hindus, Buddhists and Xristians do not use. So that you do not use a hand gesture that other religions tend to use, to worship their idols.

Secondly, before praying, one should keep their personal hygiene in check, wash your hands before praying to HaShem, and make sure that you are dressed modestly. Do not wear revealing clothes. We should ought to strive to worship HaShem as befits a King, if in your country, it is disrespectful to not wear shoes, if you could, wear shoes whenever you pray.

Also note that you should pray HaShem in a place that is clean, no awful smells or anything with idolatry in it if it is possible. If one could. Make sure there are no distractive noises that will drive you away from your focus and intention for HaShem, our G-d.

Remember, us as gentiles should not use "Shema Yisrael" a call to prayer for the Jewish people. As it will be saying something that is simply not true! We are not Israel, we are the righteous from the nations. If you are Zera Yisrael(A person with a Jewish father but with no Jewish mother.) you are halachally not Jewish, so you are considered a gentile by Orthodox views. You are not obligated to keep the 613 commandments given to the Israelites at Mount Sinai, unless you want to convert to Orthodox Judaism, but that is a whole other story! 😅

Let's go back to the earlier parts.

"Well Fiona, how should we pray?"

That is a very good question!

A Bnei Noach is encouraged to use prayers from their heart. That means, there is no set prayers for gentiles to follow unlike with the Jews. So, you can pray to HaShem whenever you wish, while also being mindful of what I have said earlier on worshipping HaShem in the right manner.

If you want scripted prayers, you can check out

Prayers, Blessings, Principles of Faith, and Divine Service for Noahide by Rabbi Moshe Weiner and Rabbi J. Immanuel Schochet. It gives a deeper insight to prayers, blessings and even more!

Noahides are not obligated to pray, that means, if you are not commanded to pray every single day or whatever, but I would encourage you to pray at least every now and then to HaShem, it doesn't have to be like a 20 minutes prayer, usually the scripted prayers that I used for my daily prayers, one session lasts about like 8 minutes, so not much time taken, which is perfect of you have a busy life!

Baruch HaShem(Thank you HaShem). 😊

Anyways, "Fiona, what if we want to pray for somebody else?"

Traditionally, if you want to pray for somebody else, you would need their name, and the name of their parents.

For prayers you would say [Their Name] bat(for daughters)/ben(for sons) [parent's name].

For health, you use their mother's name. Sometimes, some people praying on the behalf of other people would use their name and their father's name, as a behalf of them praying for a person.

If it is for a job or career related/academic related success, you should use their father's name as well.
