Risa POV

It was another cold night. The night where you feel alone and nostalgia hits you all of a sudden. With a whiskey in hand, you wish each sip would whisk away your remaining thoughts of your past lover. But it's the other way around. Each sip brings back the bittersweet memories of them, the moments you both shared. You close your eyes and think, “if she's with me right now she’d forbid me from drinking.”

The thoughts made me smile, my eyes opened and I had just realized that tears were starting to flow out. My hands are shaking as I slowly wipe away the tears. I breathe deeply whilst enjoying the cold breeze of air hitting my skin. I sighed before taking another sip of the icy whiskey I have in hand wishing that she would leave my mind but every time I close my eyes all I see her and that damn smile.

Was it really worth it? I chose my career over her, over the love of my life. And now she's gone completely shattered by my decisions. I know I chose the wrong path, I should've looked back and cradled her into my arms. I still remember that night so vividly.

Somewhere, 9 years ago...

“Baby did I do something?” Alice asks with concern.

I sighed, rubbing my temples. “No. What made you think that?”

She just smiles before nodding. “Just a thought.”

I replied with a cold “okay.” before going back to doing my paper work.

“I just wish you'd give me a little bit of your attention sometimes.”

I was tired, completely stressed with my work and here she is complaining.

“Alice, you know how serious my job is right? So I'm sorry I can't provide you with enough attention.”

“I’m your girlfriend for god sake! Sana naman naiintindihan mo rin ang pinagmumulan ko!”

“Don’t you yell at me! I—”

“I can't do this anymore. I'm tired.”

Taken aback, I took my glasses off before shifting my attention to her fully.

“What do you mean?”

She stayed silent, her eyes glued to the floor.

“Risa... I've been thinking,” she paused and I could see the tears in her eyes flowing.

“I just wanna ask you something...” she says wiping away those tears before making eye contact with me.

Those damn eyes. It hurts looking at them.

“Ako o trabaho mo?”

Suddenly my heart started beating faster. I felt my own chest tighten. Earlier I didn't feel anything and now I feel so much emotion. I didn't know what to say. I looked away fidgeting with my hands.

For a few minutes there was silence.

“I guess you made your choice then.”

She swiftly got up, and I followed behind her.

My attempts to make her stay failed. She pushed me away in anger.

I watched as her car disappeared into the empty road. I was left with so much guilt and hurt.
