"(Y/Cyb/n), why do you always stare at the surface?"
"..."
"(Y/Cyb/n)?"
The Codex stared blankly at the vast opening before and above him, where the sun's brilliant rays cascaded down like molten gold into the labyrinthine city of Iacon. His sharp and eager optic sensors dilated as he focused intently on the azure sky that stretched endlessly above Cybertron's metallic facade, never breaking his gaze. A stirring urge welled up inside him—a yearning to ascend, to break free from the confines of the city and soar amongst the clouds like a bird unhindered by the rigid structures of the world below. Though he possessed the ability to fly, this longing for elevation gnawed at him; he craved to hone his skills further, to feel the wind beneath his wings and embrace the sky in all its boundless glory. He felt akin to a cyber moth, the delicate artificial fluff adorning the shawl around his neck shimmering like soft, gossamer wings in the sunlight.
Whenever the impulse to fly struck him, a wave of alienation washed over him, as he was painfully aware that no one else shared this unique affinity for flight or possessed the same freedom in the air. Determined, he resolved to journey to the surface despite the warnings echoing in his mind from Optimus and Elita-1, cautioning him about the lurking threats of Megatron and the High Guards lying in wait on the territory above.
"(Y/Cyb/n)?"
"Hm?"
The artificial Prime glanced down, drawn from his reverie by the soft voice of B-127. The yellow mech, with his vibrant optics shining with innocence, happily enjoyed the Energon Gelato that (Y/Cyb/n) had bought for both of them.
"Are you going to eat your gelato? Or do you want me to eat it since it's beginning to melt?"
B-127 inquired gently, concern evident in his tone for the melting treat in (Y/Cyb/n)'s hand, whose attention had been glued to the surface for an eternity now, lost in dreams of flight and freedom.
"Ah. Right."
His attention was again pulled away, this time by the gelato cradled in his hands, its vibrant colors fading as the creamy treat dissolved into a small puddle of melted energon on the table before him. Usually, (Y/Cyb/n) relished the icy confection, savoring each bite that sent a delightful chill through his frame, but today, his mind was ensnared by the fervent dream of flight.
"Sorry, B-127. I was thinking about something." He replied, tearing his gaze from the glistening surface of the melted Energon and focusing on the yellow Autobot mech beside him.
"Thinking about what?"
B-127's curious gaze locked onto the Codex mech, a twinkle of youthful innocence shimmering in his brilliant blue optics. His soft and melodic voice unveiled a gentle twinge of concern as he spoke, a genuine care for his distracted companion.
"Is something bothering you? You've been staring off for a while..."
"I tend to be in thoughts. It doesn't happen very often." (Y/Cyb/n) chirped softly, his servo curling around the cone as he licked at the small puddles of the sweet, vibrant energetics pooling beneath him, a hint of regret blossoming at the sight.
"You've been doing that for the past few days, and your gelato has been melting every time," B-127 remarked with a slight deadpan, the corners of his mouth twitching in an attempt to hide a smirk, bringing forth a sheepish chuckle from the Codex mech. His screen optics lit up with sky-blue droplets, perfectly illustrating his sheepish exasperation.
"You keep staring at the surface every time we go out and get gelato," B-127 pointed out, his striking blue optics meticulously scanning (Y/Cyb/n)'s face, taking in the distracted expression that momentarily danced across his features. His voice was laced with curiosity and genuine concern. "Why do you do that?"
