The beach was quiet that night, save for the sound of the waves. Grace sat with JJ on the pier, the moonlight casting long shadows.
"You know, Grace," JJ began, his voice serious for once. "You're different from everyone else."
Grace raised an eyebrow. "How so?"
JJ shrugged, his usual carefree attitude slipping away. "You're real. You don't act like you're playing a part, you just... *are*."
Grace felt her chest tighten, unsure of how to respond. The truth was, she wasn't sure who she was anymore-not with all the attention, not with all the unspoken tension between the girls. She wasn't used to this feeling, the feeling that someone was seeing her for who she really was.
"I don't know, JJ," she admitted. "I just don't want to mess things up. With you guys, I mean."
JJ leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "You won't. We've got your back, Grace. Always."
But as much as his words reassured her
, she couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to change-whether she was ready or not.
