The meeting dragged on tediously. Vee Vivis half-listened, the high-quality graphics on the screen failing to hold his attention. His deep grey eyes were fixed on Mark's pale face instead, unable to look away.

Why was he so obsessed with this boy?

When had Mark become someone he couldn't stand to lose

All he knew was that when Mark was around, he felt comfortable and could be himself, without having to pretend to be the perfect person everyone thought he was.

Everyone saw him as a perfectionist, but he wasn't. He had his flaws, but he chose to keep them hidden from everyone except this one assistant, who saw every aspect of him and was the only one he trusted to show his true emotions. No matter who it was, he was never moved, except by one person who had shattered his trust beyond repair. That person had crushed his heart into pieces, leaving him unsure if the damage had ever healed. All he knew was that it became a numbness that, over time, developed into a feeling of 'emotionlessness'. But Mark was different. He knew this person would never betray his trust like the other had. Instinctively, he knew Mark wouldn't hurt him. But now he wasn't so sure. For the first time he felt afraid.

Theeranai's relationship with Mark awakened something dark inside him. He hated that insecurity, that fear of losing Mark, that made him feel uneasy and not himself. He'd never been cruel to Mark, even if he was overbearing or selfish at times. He'd always treated Mark with respect, seeing him as important, as a subordinate, a friend, someone he could laugh with and be close to. So he'd never made him degrade the other... except this morning.

When the boring meeting finally ended, Vee exhaled. He turned to Mark, who was efficiently packing up paperwork and a laptop, seemingly uncaring of how it was filled, which was far from how he felt. You should feel something! Even a little shiver would be good...

As everyone started to leave the room, Mark knew he had to hurry too, although for the past three years he was always the last to leave. Mark would let his boss go first out of respect and wait for the other to tell him what he wanted, ready to follow through on every word.

This time was no different. Mark waited for Vee to get up from the table, but Vee sat with his arms crossed, staring at him with a cold gaze.

"Are you having lunch here? I'll let the keyman get it ready." Mark asked calmly, slightly adjusting his glasses and waiting patiently for an answer.

"Yeah, I'll eat here." Vee replied.

"Okay."

"Wait."

"Yeah?" Mark answered and turned around with a slight smile that seemed normal, betraying no sign of the great pain he felt inside. Vee's eyes twitched at Mark's icy demeanor, which involuntarily made him darken. He didn't like Mark's indifference towards him, especially since they never had to hide their feelings from each other, always speaking their minds. He hated that anything came between him and Mark, but if Mark wanted to play, then so be it. He wanted to play too.

"I've changed my mind. Call Kim and tell him I want to have lunch with him." Vee said, standing up to his full six foot-six height. He smiled charmingly, but his eyes looked sinister, not caring how uncomfortable the person listening to this might feel.

The mention of Kim, or 'Kimhan', made Mark stop. His forced smile froze until he regained his composure and smiled at his own foolishness. Does it hurt, Mark? Vee isn't really in love with you as he stated. He's just messing with your head. The young assistant thought bitterly. The numbness he thought he could handle was proving more potent than expected. Kimhan was a rising model, a socialite with a polished appearance from head to toe, a British-educated gentleman with a noble complexion, and the grandson of a famous department store owner with branches in Thailand and abroad. Most importantly, he was someone Vee greatly respected. This was no casual relationship for Vee.
