[ VEE VIVIS ]
September, two years ago.
"Mark, I don't have anything to wear to the party. You have to come right now, this instant. I'm leaving, you know? That new housekeeper you hired made all my clothes disappear from my closet. It's crazy. You're firing her tomorrow, okay? I can't deal with people who bring chaos to my life. Do you understand?" He was on the phone, furious as he went through my wardrobe. It was all because of the new housekeeper's stupid mistake that all the suits he needed were at the dry cleaners. Five or six formal suits just went missing. Was it so bad that he had to go to the event naked? Absolutely ridiculous! The only person he could think of was Mark. Since Mark came into the picture, everything seemed a lot easier. But today, there was a small setback because he had to attend an important meeting with a Japanese client alone. It was a rather urgent appointment and he already had another equally important commitment. So I had to go.
"Why is that so?"
"Because your housekeeper sent all the suits to the dry cleaners. Now where am I supposed to find something to wear to the event? Hey, Mark!?" My voice was rising as he paced back and forth, agitated and angry, opening and closing drawers and cabinets.
"Don't worry, Mr. Vee. I'll go get your suit. Just wait for me. I'll have it back in an hour." Mark offered, a solution that somewhat calmed me down.
"Just make it quick, okay?" Forty minutes later, I was surprised to see Mark walk in with the keycard, soaked from head to toe. I was taken aback. His large, black-framed glasses were spattered with water droplets. He quickly wiped them off before putting them back on.
"Here's your suit, boss." Mark handed me the suit but then seemed to remember something and took it back. "Wait. Let me get a towel to dry off the plastic cover first." He ran into the bathroom, grabbed a towel, and quickly dried it off.
I stood there, stunned. Was I crazy or was I just incredibly dedicated to walking through the rain and into the house like this? "You're soaked." I blurted, annoyed, not because his clothes were wet but because I was more worried that he might catch a cold.
"I forgot, I wet the carpet." Mark stepped back and looked at his soaked leather shoes with a heavy heart. He handed me the suit, which I took with a stern expression. "I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time, so I took a motorbike taxi in the rain. But don't worry, your suit is definitely dry, Mark reassured me.
I then asked him how he got here, and he ony, you briefly explained that after hanging up on me, he immediately headed to the laundromat. But as luck would have it, his old car broke down on on the way, so he had to resort to a motorbike taxi.
"You're completely crazy, did you know that? But don't do that again. The roads are slippery when it rains like this. What would happen if you had an accident?"
My assistant tried to keep the suit dry in his arms, but there wasn't a single dry spot on his own body. Water dripped off Mark's body and he began to shiver slightly. I dropped the suit and walked into the room, returning with a black t-shirt and another towel.
"Go get changed."
Mark removed his glasses and hesitated a moment before accepting the shirt from me. He's the kind that's considerate, but with my order, he didn't dare to drown.
"Hurry up. The whole house's getting wet."
"Thanks, boss. You should get ready too. We might be late for the event. Do you want a ride?"
"I can drive myself. Go get changed. You'll get sick." Without his boring glasses, Mark looked surprisingly attractive. At that moment, Mark looked like a young man fresh out of the water, his clothes clinging to his slender figure, awakening something primal within me.
Damn, I'd been working with this guy for years. Why hadn't I noticed that Mark was actually charming and attractive? I always liked it when he smiled, the world seemed brighter. Especially when he spoke in that soothing voice, making my life feel less lonely.
"I'll take you, boss." Mark re-emerged after changing, eagerly volunteering.
I looked at him differently now. Mark looked incredibly hot with my shirt on. His wet hair was a mess but attractive, and I felt the need to pin his slender body against the couch and make him moan my name. What would Mark be like in bed? Gentle, slow, wild, and passionate? I figured Mark probably didn't have a partner since he never mentioned anyone. But it was hard to believe that someone as nice as him didn't have a bedmate... I couldn't say what kind of relationships Mark had, with women or men. But that didn't matter. What mattered was that Mark was someone he was satisfied with.
"Do you want to drive?"
"Yes, boss. Traffic is bad. Don't drive yourself. You'll only frustrate it."
I nodded, accepting his offer.
"Are you hungry? Should we eat something first? Skipping meals isn't good for your stomach."
"Okay. I can eat later. How about you? Are you hungry?"
"I eat pretty late, so I'm still fine... Boss, excuse me." Patt walked over and straightened my slightly crooked neck. I instinctively tilted my head, willingly allowing the smaller man to adjust my collar. The accidental touch of his fingers on my neck sent an inappropriate shiver down my legs. No one had ever cared about me like Mark did. Not even my own mother paid that much attention to the details of my life. Everyone claimed to love and care for me, but their actions were always the complete opposite: indifferent and cold. Three years had brought Mark and me closer, maybe because of work responsibilities, but more than that, it was the bond we shared. I used to clearly separate work and sex, but now I wasn't sure I could do that anymore. Images of Mark from the first time I saw him until now came back to me, reminding me that I couldn't let Mark go and let him see anyone more important than me.
