Saachi stepped into the room, the door creaking softly behind her as it swung closed. She glanced around, but her gaze barely lingered. The sprawling room seemed vast, its luxurious design almost blurring in the haze of her thoughts. Silk curtains billowed slightly from the breeze of the open window, and the ornate chandelier above glistened with golden light.

The bed was enormous, inviting, yet Saachi did not even look at it. Instead, she walked slowly, her heart heavy, her feet dragging as if each step carried the weight of a thousand emotions.

Without a second thought, Saachi collapsed onto the bed, her face hitting the plush surface as her body crumpled. She buried her face in the soft pillows, her body trembling. The tears flowed freely now, the pain from earlier still sharp in her chest. Her whole life has become a joke today.

Her mind replayed the cruel words of her newly made mother-in-law over and over.

“So, you’ve killed my daughter-in-law and are trying to get her place. Then listen and get this thing to fit in your mind that I will never consider you as a daughter-in-law. I just wanna see you behind the bars as soon as possible.”

Each sentence was a dagger to her heart, and with each memory, the tears came harder, until they felt like rivers threatening to drown her. She had never felt this alone, this helpless, in her entire life.

From her past, she had always been the cherished daughter—treated like a princess. Her parents had adored her, lavished her with love, and now they were gone. They leave her in this cold, unfamiliar world.

"Why?" she whispered through the sobs, her voice barely audible. "Why am I here? Why am I being punished for something I didn't do?"

There was no answer. Only the echo of her own sorrow.

After a few moments, Saachi felt a presence in the room. A soft knock on the door broke through her haze of grief.

"Saachi?" A voice called from the other side, gentle, tentative.

She froze, not wanting anyone to see her like this, but her voice betrayed her, cracking as she responded, "Go away."

The door creaked open slowly. Saachi didn't look up, her face still buried in the pillow. Footsteps entered, tentative at first, then closer.

"Saachi..." the voice spoke again. It was a woman’s voice, soothing, with a note of concern. "I know you're hurting. I can feel it. But shutting yourself off won't help."

Saachi turned her head slightly, just enough to see the figure standing in the doorway. The woman was a stranger to her, but there was an undeniable warmth in her eyes, a kindness that Saachi hadn't seen since the death of her parents.

"Who are you?" Saachi choked out, her voice thick with tears.

"I'm… Siya," Siya said, taking a few steps forward. "I’m your badi mumma. I know you don’t know me well, but it's fine, my child. If you need anything I am just a call away."

Saachi wiped her eyes hastily, not sure whether to be relieved or confused. She didn’t want sympathy. She didn’t want to be a burden. "I don’t need anyone's help," she muttered, her voice muffled by the pillow.
