Rosie, Ava, and Lucifer stepped through the door, shaking off the chill of the afternoon air, their faces flushed from the crisp walk. Blueberry pranced happily at their heels, while Ava carefully set down the backpack, easing Pumpkin out and cradling him in her arms.
Inside, the scene before them was far from what they expected. Alastor sat at the bar, legs crossed elegantly, a glass of wine in hand, his grin practically glowing with amusement as he watched Adam and a frazzled woman they presumed to be Lute mid-argument.
"Oh, you're back," Alastor greeted without turning, swirling his wine. "You've returned just in time for the performance. I'd offer a playbill, but I didn't get one either."
"What's going on?" Lucifer asked, his brows furrowing as he hung Blueberry's leash by the door.
"That's Lute, Adam's... lady friend," Alastor replied, savoring the title with a wicked smirk. "She's been here for about ten minutes, begging him to return home. He keeps demanding to know why, but alas, the answer remains elusive."
Rosie, catching on quickly, gestured to Husk for a glass of wine. "Oh, I'm not missing this," she said, sliding onto the stool beside Alastor.
Lucifer, shaking his head at the absurdity, scooped up Ava and carried her to the couch. "Come on, pumpkin, let's stay out of this one," he murmured. Ava glanced over at the commotion, confused, but ultimately focused on getting the real Pumpkin settled on her lap.
Across the room, Adam stood, arms spread wide, bewilderment written across his face. "Lute, I don't get it! If it's so important, just tell me here! Why do I have to go home to hear it?"
"I told you, Adam, it's not something I can say here!" Lute's voice wavered, more distraught than angry. She looked like she might burst into tears at any moment, wringing her hands desperately.
Adam groaned, running a hand through his hair. "I don't understand! Why can't you just spit it out? What could possibly be so secret that you can't—"
"I'M PREGNANT!" Lute screamed, her voice echoing through the room like a gunshot.
Silence fell.
Alastor froze mid-sip, his eyes lighting up with devilish delight. Rosie gasped dramatically, clutching her chest as she turned to Husk. "Another glass. Now," she demanded.
Lucifer blinked in stunned silence, his arms loosely crossed as he glanced at Ava. She tilted her head, whispering, "What's pregnant mean?"
"Uh... we'll talk about that later, sweetheart," he replied quickly, focusing back on the unfolding drama.
Adam, meanwhile, was rooted to the spot, his mouth slightly open as he processed what he'd just heard. "You're... what?" he finally croaked, his voice cracking.
Lute sniffled, wiping at her eyes. "I'm pregnant, Adam," she repeated softly. "And I didn't know how to tell you. I'm sorry for yelling, but I just... I need you to come home. We have to figure this out."
Alastor leaned toward Rosie, stage-whispering, "And there's your plot twist."
Rosie laughed, raising her glass. "Best show I've seen in ages."
Lucifer sighed, shaking his head as he leaned back against the couch, already anticipating the chaos that was sure to follow. "This is going to be a long night," he muttered under his breath.
Adam sighed deeply, rubbing his temples as the weight of Lute's revelation sank in. He gestured toward the opposite couch. "Sit down," he said firmly, his tone calm but edged with weariness. "We're talking this out. But I can't leave. God's orders—I'm supposed to be here for Michael, and that's not something I can just walk away from. If you want to figure this out, you're going to have to stay here for now."
