Adam descended the stairs, looking a little more relaxed after settling Lute upstairs. As he reached the bottom, he paused to take in the scene: Michael, now holding Aurielle, gazed at her with a mix of awe and cautious affection. She cooed softly, her tiny fingers wrapping around one of his.
"She likes you already," Adam said, stepping closer.
Michael gave a small, almost sheepish smile. "She's... so small." He tilted his head slightly, studying her. "And a lot cuter than I expected."
Lucifer snorted. "What, were you expecting horns? She's not one of our kids."
Adam rolled his eyes but smirked. "Speaking of kids, Ava, come here."
Ava eagerly hopped up from the floor and tiptoed next to Michael, craning her neck to peek at the baby. "She's so tiny," Ava whispered, her voice filled with wonder.
"Yup," Adam said, crouching beside her. "This is Aurielle. She's your... well, let's just go with cousin for simplicity's sake."
Ava nodded seriously, her big eyes still fixed on Aurielle. "Hi, Aurielle," she whispered. "I'm Ava. I'll teach you all the best stuff when you're big enough."
Aurielle let out a small squeak, her tiny hand flailing toward Ava, and Ava giggled.
Lucifer crossed his arms, grinning. "Alright, alright, hand her over. I haven't had my turn yet."
Michael gently passed the baby to Lucifer, who cradled her with surprising ease, his smirk softening into something almost tender. "Well, aren't you a little angel," he murmured.
"Don't jinx it," Adam joked, leaning against the armrest of the couch.
Alastor chuckled from his spot nearby. "She does seem rather perfect. And I don't say that lightly."
Adam laughed, running a hand through his hair. "Oh, trust me, perfect isn't the word I'd use for what I saw."
Everyone looked at him, curious.
"What do you mean?" Michael asked.
"Well," Adam began, his grin widening, "the birth was... intense."
"Oh, do tell," Lucifer said, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
"Alright, so first off, Lute almost broke my hand. Like, I'm not even kidding; she's strong." Adam flexed his hand as if recalling the pain.
"Serves you right for letting her suffer," Michael teased.
"Hey, I was there for moral support! Except—" Adam paused, his grin turning sheepish, "I kind of passed out."
Lucifer blinked. "You what?"
"I looked when the doctor said the head was coming out," Adam admitted, rubbing the back of his neck, "and between the, uh, baby's head and... the tear... I was out cold."
Alastor chuckled, shaking his head. "A valiant effort, Adam. Truly."
"I'm surprised you didn't scream," Michael said dryly.
"Hey, at least I didn't throw up!" Adam shot back.
"That's a low bar," Lucifer deadpanned, rocking Aurielle gently.
"Anyway," Adam continued, "thank God—wait, scratch that, not God—thank Lute for asking a nurse to film it, because if it had been me, there wouldn't have been a record of her being born at all."
Everyone burst out laughing, even Michael cracking a smile.
"Despite all that," Adam said, his tone softening, "it was worth it. She's here, and she's perfect. I can't believe we made this tiny little person."
Lucifer looked down at Aurielle, her tiny fist clutching his finger now. "Well, you didn't completely screw it up, so... congratulations."
Michael snorted, Ava giggled, and Alastor raised an eyebrow.
Adam just grinned. "Thanks, Luci. That means a lot."
Adam, still grinning, casually leaned against the back of the couch. "One thing's for sure," he said, shaking his head. "I'm definitely using protection from now on."
The room went silent for a beat before Lucifer, Alastor, and Michael all turned to him, wide-eyed.
"You never used protection?!" they exclaimed in near-perfect unison.
Adam blinked, caught off guard. "Uh, well... no. It feels better if you don't, but—" He raised his hands defensively. "Okay, yeah, it has consequences. I get that now."
Lucifer facepalmed dramatically. "Yeah, ya think? How do you think Charlie came about?"
As if on cue, Charlie stuck her head in from the hallway, looking curious. "Did someone call me?"
Everyone turned to her, struggling to stifle their laughter, while Lucifer froze, his face turning a shade paler. "No!" he choked out, waving a hand. "Nobody did!"
Charlie frowned slightly, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Okaaay..." she said slowly before disappearing again.
The room burst into quiet chuckles as Lucifer groaned, burying his face in his hands.
