Ryder's eyes sparkled. "Want to explore the city?" " Tomorrow's our final meeting." "Then we head back."
Anya's face lit up. "Yes!" She rushed to her room, grabbed her purse. Ryder's smile grew seeing her excitement.
"First stop, amusement park!" Anya squealed. "Roller coaster!" Ryder hesitated. "You want me to..." Anya nodded enthusiastically. Ryder reluctantly agreed.
As they climbed into the carriage. Anya grasped Ryder's hand. "Ready?" The ride started. Ryder's fear surfaced. "Ahhh!" He shouted. Anya laughed uncontrollably. Ryder's grip on her hand tightened. After the ride. Anya beamed. "That was amazing!" Ryder breathed relief. "Glad it's over." Anya playfully teased. " Scaredy-cat!" Ryder chuckled.
Next, Anya rose solo enjoying bumper cars, Ferris wheel. Then the horror house. Ryder accompanied her inside, darkness enveloped. Anya clutched Ryder's arm. "Ahh!" Skeletons lurched. Anya shrieked. Ryder laughed "scared now?" Anya playfully hit him. "Shut up!" Their banter continued through spooky corridors. Ryder enjoyed her laughter, her smile. Anya felt carefree with Ryder for the first time. As they exited Ryder turned serious. "Dinner?" Anya nodded. "Love to."
As they stepped into the cozy restaurant, Anya's eyes sparkled illuminating the warm ambiance. Ryder couldn't help but notice the way the soft lighting danced across her face, highlighting the contours of her delicate features. Their evening was off to a lovely start, until Nicolas appeared, his presence a sudden interruption.
"Anya, may I have a word?" Nicolas requested, his voice low and sincere. Anya's curiosity was piqued, and she nodded, inviting him to join them.
Nicolas's eyes locked onto hers, his gaze intense and passionate. "From the moment I met you, I knew you were special," he confessed, his words spilling out like a gentle stream. " Your tenderness, your voice, your charm, your beauty... everything about you captivates me. " Ryder's jaw clenched, his emotions simmering beneath the surface, but his expression remained neutral, veiling his true feelings.
Anya's cheeks flushed, her surprise and embarrassment palpable. Nicolas continued, his words pouring out from the depths of his heart. "I know I may not be familiar to you, and I don't presume to be your ideal type. But I want you to know that I'll make you happy, if given the chance. I promise to cherish and support you, to be your rock in every storm. I'll never make you regret choosing me,"
The sincerity in Nicolas voice touched Anya's heart but she knew her response wouldn't be what he hoped for. She took a deep breath, her words gentle but firm. " Nicolas, I'm flattered by your confession. Truly. I am. But I must be honest with you - I don't feel the same way. I've never experienced romantic love, never had the opportunity to explore its depths. What I seek is different, something permanent and true."
Nicolas's face fell, his eyes clouding over with disappointment. Yet, he nodded graciously, accepting her rejection with dignity. " I understand, Anya. Thank you for your honesty." With a quiet smile, he bid them farewell, leaving Ryder and Anya to their dinner.
As they ordered their meals, Ryder's gaze often met Anya's, their unspoken connection growing stronger with each passing moment. He listened attentively as she shared her thoughts, her laughter weaving a spell around him. The evening unfolded like a tender melody, their hearts beating in harmony.
In the silence, Ryder realised his feelings for Anya had deepened, evolved into something more profound. He couldn't quite put his fingers on it, but the thought of her with Nicolas had stirred a possessiveness within him, a desire to protect and cherish her. Tomorrow, he vowed, would be different. Tomorrow he'd take her to the beach, and perhaps, reveal the emotions he'd been hiding.
As they reached their rooms. Anya's mind wandered into a maze of thoughts. Ryder's sudden change in behaviour, his care and concern for her, left her perplexed. The kiss they shared lingered in her memory, her first kiss, taken without consent, yet she couldn't help but feel grateful it was him. She scolded herself, questioning her feelings. How could she develop emotions for Ryder, a single father from a different world?
Across the hallway, Ryder's thoughts mirrored Anya's. The kiss had been his first initiation, a spark that ignited a flurry of emotions. He analysed his feelings, acknowledging the jealousy that flared when Nicolas proposed. "Good she didn't agree," he thought, "or I would've had to intervene." Ryder vowed to proceed slowly, to know Anya better, ensuring she'd accept Sophia, his beloved daughter.
As he reflected, Ryder realised Sophia and Anya shared a natural connection, comfortable and effortless. His mother's approval of Anya further solidified his resolve. A resolute smile spread across his face. "No matter what, I'll make her mine."
Lost in their thoughts, they drifted into slumber, the distance between their rooms bridged by the unspoken connection growing between them. The night air whispered promises of a future yet to unfold.
The next day Ryder stood by the window, his phone pressed to his ear as he gazed out at the city skyline. "Morning, Robert," he said, his deep voice firm.
"Ryder, what's up?" Robert replied, his tone friendly.
"Victoria's sabotage," Ryder stated bluntly, his expression grim. "I've got CCTV footage. She spiked Anya's drink."
Robert's tone turned apologetic. "Ryder, I'm sorry. That's unacceptable. I'll talk to her."
"I've sent you the footage," Ryder continued. " Make sure she understands the consequences."
"Consider it handled," Robert assured. " She'll apologise and ensure it doesn't happen again."
Ryder nodded, though Robert couldn't see him. "Appreciate it."
The conversation concluded. Ryder hung up and turned to face Anya, who emerged from her room. "Ready?" He asked, his eyes roving over her elegant outfit.
Anya nodded, smoothing her dress. "Yes."
In the elevator, Ryder's gaze locked onto hers, his eyes burning with intensity. Anya's cheeks warmed as she cast her eyes downward, focussing on her shoes.
Ryder's hand hovered near her face. His fingers grazing her skin. Anya's lashes fluttered closed, anticipating a kiss. But instead, Ryder's fingers gently removed and eyelash from her cheek. "Might irritate your eyes," he whispered.
Anya's cheeks flamed deeper, a deep crimson spreading across her face. Ryder's smirk grew, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You look cute when embarrassed," he teased, his voice low.
Anya's pulse quickened, her heart racing. She felt a flutter in her chest. The elevator stopped, and the doors slid open. Their destination arrived. As they stepped out, Anya's composure returned, but Ryder's words lingered in her mind.
