(Payal's POV)I removed another twig tangled in my hair, before picking up the round brush to fix my messy hair.
I looked into the mirror and winced, "I probably should take a bath instead."
So I did,
I had to reach there in half an hour, and here I was looking like I was an inhabitant of the forest.
"Well that would have been better if I were really that instead." I think as I hook up my blouse and wear my lehenga, keeping the dupatta side for the moment.
I apply kajal and bindi after finishing braiding up my hair in one praveni plait and bickered with my thoughts whether I should add jewels in my hair as well after I wore two kada in each of my hands and one thin chain in my neck remained, earrings that connected till my hair.
C'mon, I know it's a lot, but
It was necessary for a princess to dress like that,
It was all too heavy, but yeah, as important as ever.
I rarely joined them at the dinner, but bauji called me up today by sending the sandesh, It must be something he thinks I shouldn't ignore.
After I finished with my outfit, i glanced at the candle lit mirror, scrunching my nose at the missing rose ring.
I wore it, a small one and checked if my pair of payal were still in my feet after all the 'gardening' I did.
Lighted the mandir diya,
Feeded my rabbits.
I took my phone, side purse and keys to my house,
And done.
As I went out,two bodyguard greeted me and followed me to the car sent by my father and one of them opened the door of the car.
I got in and sighed.
Long way to go.
...
"I really regret telling you that dinner will take place after the meet and greet party,Princess" the driver sighed, checking his watch in every two minutes anxiously.
"Mmhmm, I have been called for the dinner and not for the party, so eating a few plates of Pani Puri won't stop them from throwing a feast." I managed to speak with my mouth stuffed with bittersweet and spicy water of Pani Puri.
"I will loose my job if I continue to cooperate with you, your highness."
"Add more spice," I tell the stall guy and then turn to my old driver, my eyes watering with the taste, "Chacha, first of all, quit calling me that, I am like a daughter to you and you calling me your highness is, weird." I tell him and he lets out another sigh but smiles.
"So if you are like my daughter, then you should know I don't want my daughter to get in trouble right?"
I roll my eyes, and throw the paper plate after the panipuri stall guy gave me two more to eat.
It looked absurd, with all the outfit I wore, the three big cars standing next to the roadside stalls of street food.
"Here." I took out 200 rupees to pay for the panipuri I ate,
"Ma'am you need to give me 20 rupees, that's 200."
"I know. Keep it."
I wipe my hands with a tissue and turn towards the car, as the driver chacha opened the door for me, he smiled gladly, I just winked at him.
Little things mattered me the most, than the party I was going to,
I leaned my head over the glass of the window of my car and look out, our car passing through a street, where I could see people, trying to survive with no blood left in their body, starving and cold,
And here am I, the princess of these people, who is going to join many others like me, and have a feast, we are who these people set their hopes that some day, they will be blessed with some food and shelter, and yet, we will all enjoy the evening with some champagne and meal.
How ironic.
My phone buzzed with a notification, and I lit the screen to view it,
From Tauji ka ladla: They have a new deal for you... But seems like these people are pretty important,
From Tauji ka ladla: and dangerous.
Me: Hmn, Interesting.
