Anna's POV: My alarm went off at 7am. I realized today was Valentine's Day. I grab my phone to text Charlie back. I feel so awful for ignoring him.
Me: We'll talk later
Char: ok thank goodness you're alive, I was worried sick
Me: I'm sorry.
Char: It's okay. Why don't we go out tonight
Me: Charlie. Are you asking me out?
Char: I mean if you want to, no pressure.
Me: I would love to. Oh I got to get to class.
I put my phone in my backpack and enter my class. A date with Charlie? An actual date. It's going to be so embarrassing. I've never been on a date before. I hope we can both keep a conversation going. Wait, why do I keep thinking of "we". Charlie and I are not dating, there is no "we". I feel like if Charlie and I were to date, I would be the one to mess up the relationship, but you never know what would happen. My first class is done, time for the second class. Most of my classes are interesting. Some professors can teach and some can't. Most of the assignments are online anyway. What's the point of going to class? I hate it here. I made a 90 on my research paper. I'm so glad I got that, I thought I was going to fail. At this point, I haven't been paying any attention in class anymore. I can't wait for my date with Charlie tonight. He's going to be so proud about my grade. He helped with most of the ideas after all. My second class lasted longer than normal, I just wanted to go home. It wasn't until 3pm I got home. Charlie texted me while I was in class but I just saw it.
Char: I'll pick you up at 5
Me: cool cool
Char: What's that
Me: What's what
Char: That
Me: I don't know what you're talking about
Char: Are you nervous?
Me: What? me. nervous. no. absolutely not.
Char: oh come on now you definitely are
Me: Charlie. I guess I am. I NEVER been on a date before.
Char: Look it'll be fine. You got me.
Me: I trust you.
Char: I'll be there soon.
Soon, I hate that word. I left his message on read, then looked at the time. It was 4:30pm. I had to get ready fast. I decided on a red crop top and blue jeans. I didn't have much, but I thought it was an okay look for getting ready fast. I didn't know how to dress, because he didn't tell me where we were going. I brush my hair out, because there was no time to curl or straighten it. I had 10 minutes left to spare. Charlie was right, I had no reason to be nervous. I can't help that I am a little nervous though. I hear a knock at the door, it's Charlie in casual clothes. He looks so good. He brought me flowers.
"Happy Valentine's Day", he said.
"Aw thanks Charlie", I said taking the flowers and putting them in a verse.
"Let's go", he said.
When we got to his car, he opened the door for me. I know it's the bare minimum, but it's sweet.
"Where are we going", I asked picking a song to play on his phone.
"Nowhere", he said.
"You're kidding me right. Remember when I said I trust you. I still do", I ask him.
"Yeah well I guess", he said. He's so sassy today.
"We are here", he said.
He parked his car at a hillside. He opens my car door, so I get out of the car. He pulls out a picnic basket from the backseat. We set up the picnic on the best spot of hillside. We both talked and eat after setting up everything. The sunset was absolutely beautiful.
"Wow beautiful sunset", I said.
"That's definitely you", he said quietly, but I heard him.
"Thanks Charlie", I said blushing.
"Did you know I play basketball, and I'm on the UCF basketball team", he said. Finally, I know something about him.
"Are you kidding, I love watching basketball", I said.
"Really? Can you play", he asked.
"No, I'm absolutely the worst. I can only make baskets close to the hoop", I said.
"I can teach you, not tonight. Another day", he said.
"You'd do that for me, thank you", I said.
"Only for you", he said.
"I got a 90 on my research paper", I said.
"Our research paper", he said.
"Shush whatever you say", I said hitting him in the arm.
"Let's go get ice cream", he said.
"Yeah", I said.
We clean up our picnic date and head back to his car. He opens the door for me to get in and I do. He's so sweet and cute. I feel like every time I'm with Charlie, it feels like air. We would work so well if we started dating. I'm just so afraid if I did start dating Charlie is that our friendship wouldn't be the same. I really like him a lot. I'm very afraid he'll cheat on me. I mean he wouldn't right, but he is a basketball player. I bet every girl wants to date him.
"Anna you good", he asked me.
"I'm good", I said looking at him.
"What are you thinking about", he asked.
"Florida, you, everything", I said.
"Me why", he asked as we are pulling into the ice cream place.
"Oh look we're here. I'm so excited let's go", I said.
He parks the car and he opens my car door to get out. I get out and follow him inside. It looks so old-time diner type kind of like the diner in To All The Boys I Loved Before. They had food, milkshakes, ice cream, and everything. We ordered and everything that we ordered came to our so fast.
"Wow this is so good", I said.
"You haven't been here yet", he asked.
"No, ever since I got to Florida, I haven't really gotten out much. I don't have a lot of friends here either. I have a really hard time trusting people due to my old friends. Moving to a new state is so easy, but so hard you know", I said sadly. I think he's trying to change the subject.
"Have you been to Disney or Universal", he asked.
"Nope", I said.
"You're missing out", he said.
"I know, I know", I said.
We finished our ice cream and went back to my apartment. He walked me to the door and I was heading inside.
"Thanks Charlie, this was really fun. It was nice to get away from assignments for once", I said.
"Yeah it was. Happy Valentine's Day. See you later", he said. I close the door.
I completely forgot it was Valentine's Day. I go to my room and get into my comfy clothes. It was about 10pm and way past my bedtime. It was worth it for Charlie. I get my phone to text him.
Me: Thank you for making me not hate Valentine's Day.
He left me on delivered, he probably went to sleep. I put my phone on the charger and fell asleep.
