Chapter 10: Basketball

Anna's POV: I woke up an hour before class. Not the plan. I was getting ready for class. I played music while getting ready. I got a text from Charlie. 

Char: Don't miss me too much. 

Me: You don't miss me too much. 

Char: Noted

I grab my phone and head to class. These classes are so long and boring. After four hours of classes, Avery wanted to hang out. She came over to my apartment. 

"Wow I love your place", she said.

"Thanks. I don't really like a ton of people here, just you and Charlie", I said,

"Why is that", she asked. 

"I have really bad trust issues with people and this place is kind of my safe space", I said. 

"I understand, I get that", she said. 

"Where is Charlie", she asked. 

"He's on the basketball team and they had an away game today", I said. 

"Oh. So, how did you two meet", she asked.

"We met in December of 2022 at the coffee shop. I accidently spilled coffee on him when I bumped him. Then, I met him again in January after syllabus week at the library while studying. And for the last time January 24th, I met him again at the coffee shop and the rest is history", I said. 

"Invisible string theory", she said. 

"That's right", I said. 

"That's sweet. Have you given any thought about dating", she said. 

"Yeah. I really like him a lot. But I'm scared because it'll be my first relationship", I said. 

"Don't be scared, if you like him then go for it", she said. 

"Yeah I guess so", I said. 

"I gotta go, see you later", she said. 

"See you", I said as she walked out the door. 

It was around 6p, and I was ready for dinner. I kind of miss Charlie, but he can never know that. Or maybe he can. I finished making my dinner and started to watch Outer Banks. I hope UCF plays really well against Memphis tonight. But Memphis is good, so we'll see. After two hours, I got a text from Charlie. 

Char: We lost

Me: What? by how much? Is coach upset? 

Char: We lost by a point and I think he's upset but I don't know. 

Me: Wow. Ok, well when are you coming back? I miss you

Char: Later tonight. I miss you. And my roommate owes me $20 

Me: lol what why 

Char: Don't be mad, but my roommate and I made a bet about who misses who first. 

Me: Not mad, that's cute. Wait, you didn't make a bet on anything else? 

Char: Nah we didn't 

Me: okay cool 

Char: I'll see you tomorrow 

Me: Wait... don't go yet

Char: How was your day? 

Me: I met a new friend named Avery, she's super sweet 

Char: That's cool, does she know about you and I? 

Me: Yeah, she does. She knows of us from the coffee shop and my classes. 

Char: Oh that makes sense 

Char: I'm glad you're making new friends, are you still thinking about transferring? 

Me: I don't think I will be, at least not this school year. It's just kind of hard of where I want to be. 

Char: I get it. Sometimes, I want to transfer

Me: I'm sorry I didn't know. Does it have anything to do with me? 

Char: No definitely not you. It's just family and basketball. 

Me: I'm sorry. 

Char: So you see, my dad coaches for Florida Atlantic University. It would be a dream to play for him. But I have a feeling he won't stay at FAU forever. That's why I'm thinking about transferring. 

Me: I've never been to FAU. I know their mascot is an owl. I've seen some basketball games on tv. I had no idea that was your dad. 

Char: Yep, that's him. Oh it's past your bedtime. 

Me: I don't care. At least we got to talk. 

Char: Yeah, I'm getting tired on the bus. Goodnight Anna. 

Me: Goodnight Charlie.

I didn't notice it was past nine o'clock until Charlie said something. I do have a lot of assignments due and I get to see Charlie tomorrow, so that's a plus. I wonder what he has planned.
