Red stood frozen, staring at the glowing orb as the images faded from his mind. The weight of what he'd seen pressed on his chest—a rush of emotions he couldn't untangle. Yellow's face, the shadowy figure, the sense that everything in this strange place was connected to him.He barely noticed Lime stepping closer, their usual smugness replaced with a strange, quiet intensity. "Red," they said, their voice softer than he'd ever heard it. "You're shaking."
Red blinked, realizing Lime was right. His hands were trembling at his sides, and his breath came in uneven bursts. "I'm fine," he muttered, though his voice didn't sound convincing even to himself. He turned away from the orb, away from Lime's piercing gaze. "We should keep moving."
Lime didn't move. Instead, they reached out, their hand brushing Red's arm. "Hey," they said quietly. "You don't have to act like you're fine. Not with me."
Red's first instinct was to pull away—to snap some biting remark about Lime not knowing when to stop. But something in their tone stopped him. It wasn't teasing, or smug, or any of the usual Lime nonsense. It was... real. And it broke something loose inside him.
"I don't know if I'm fine," Red admitted, the words spilling out before he could stop them. He turned back to Lime, his eyes blazing. "I don't know what's happening, or why I'm here, or what any of this means. And you're always—always—there, making everything more complicated!"
Lime didn't back away. Instead, they stepped closer, their gaze steady. "I make things complicated?" they asked, their voice low. "Or do I make you feel something you don't know what to do with?"
Red opened his mouth to argue, but no words came out. Lime took another step forward, close enough that Red could feel the heat radiating from them. Their hand slid up his arm, slow and deliberate, until it rested on his shoulder.
"You can push me away," Lime murmured, their voice a mix of challenge and something softer. "But we both know you don't really want to."
Red's heart pounded in his chest, and he couldn't tell if it was from anger, fear, or something else entirely. Lime's eyes searched his, and for once, there was no smirk—just quiet intensity. The air between them felt electric, the tension snapping like a live wire.
And then, before Red could think or stop himself, he closed the distance.
The kiss was sudden, sharp, and fueled by everything Red had been holding back—confusion, frustration, and a heat he hadn't wanted to name. Lime's lips were warm against his, and for a split second, the world around them seemed to dissolve.
Lime didn't hesitate. Their hand slid to the back of Red's neck, pulling him closer, deepening the kiss with a confidence that made Red's head spin. It wasn't teasing or playful—this was something raw, something real.
When they finally broke apart, Red stepped back, his breath ragged. His eyes were wide, his mind racing. "I—I didn't mean—"
"Yes, you did," Lime said, cutting him off. Their smirk was back, but this time it was softer, almost... genuine. "And for the record, I knew you'd cave eventually."
Red glared at them, though the heat in his cheeks betrayed him. "You're impossible."
"And you're adorable when you're flustered," Lime shot back, their grin widening. "But don't worry, Captain. Your secret's safe with me."
Before Red could respond, the orb pulsed again, drawing both their attention. The symbols on the walls began to shift, rearranging themselves into something that almost looked like a map.
"We'll deal with this later," Red said firmly, shaking his head as he turned back to the task at hand. But as they moved forward, he felt Lime's hand brush against his again—just for a second, a fleeting touch that sent a shiver down his spine.
Red didn't push it away this time.
