I was astounded at what he said just now.
War?
I sat up on the bed with some effort because my whole body was giving up due to pain and exhaustion. Clutching the duvet close to my chest, I looked at him in worry and surprise.
"War? What do you mean by that?", it sounded absurd to me because, war in today's time? And it wasn't like he was in the military.
He looked down at his lap with a sigh before looking back at me. No words came out of his mouth because all he did in response was stare at me blankly. His demeanor had completely changed from wild and aroused to calm and blank.
"Arnav you're worrying me with your silence. You know that right?", I said in a pleading tone. Worry seemed to surround me and even my gut wasn't responding positively.
"Anika, please promise you won't freak out and make me promise something I can't work on", he said calmly, holding my hands in between his warm ones. My body was turning cold in anticipation of what was to come.
I nodded hesitantly, desperately waiting for him to take away the burden of tension and worry from my shoulders. My heart was thumping hard.
"Anika, you're well known to my underworld position right?"
I nodded.
"There's been serious rivalry between the European mafia, specifically Italian, and the Asian mafia, specifically Indian, since ages. It started a century ago. And here Nishant and his father are involved. It's a huge story and every detail has a story in it. But I just want you to know that because his father had a deep sense of revenge against my father for decades, everything is now falling apart and everything is getting revealed. Everyone—Arshi, Nishant, Yumi, Uday, all are connected to each other. In fact your biological father, Ajay Singh Rathore, and your biological brother, Vikram Singh Rathore, are also involved. There's gonna be a huge war and it's gonna take time to end and for everything to settle down. Now I need to go", he spoke everything shattering me into pieces.
"So you knew about my real father, my mother and brother? About Nishant and Arshi? About Yumi being Arshi's sister? About—about everything?", I asked in disbelief. I never thought that he'd know everything. And if he did know all these then, he knew about my motive too. Didn't he?
"So you knew what I was doing all the time?", I asked, looking at him in disbelief.
He nodded, "I did. I knew what you had been doing because your activities had started to get suspicious like going for meetings at random times, being startled sometimes and zoning out, leaving your things back at places where you had gone etc. I never wanted to upset you or intervene in your business so I never talked about it. But I had to go after you, both because of your safety and to ensure that my empire was safe. Hope you can understand why I was prioritising my empire."
